Estimates of the number of Muslims in France vary widely. A poll released in 2007 placed it at 3% of the population, while in 2006 the U.S Department of State placed it at about 10%. The CIA World Factbook places it at 5-10% (that's rom wiki)

This is probably the best thing I could find from BBC quoting the National Institude of Statistics and Economic Studies an estimate from the french gov't:

FRANCE

Total population: 62.3 million

Muslim population: Five to six million (8-9.6%)

Background: The French Muslim population is the largest in western Europe. About 70% have their heritage in former north African colonies of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. France favours integration and many Muslims are citizens. Nevertheless, the growth of the community has challenged the French ideal of strict separation of religion and public life. There has been criticism that Muslims face high unemployment and often live in poor suburbs. A ban on religious symbols in public schools provoked a major national row as it was widely regarded as being a ban on the Islamic headscarf. Late 2005 saw widespread and prolonged rioting among mainly immigrant communities across France.

Sources: Total population - National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies, 2004 figures; Muslim population - French government estimate.

Interesting stuff. From what I understand the new conservative president in France, Nicolas Sarkozy, is going to tighten immigration laws. It's hard to see if what the growing rate is from year to year because these stats seem to fluctuate based on who is conducting. But I think its safe to say that the muslim population is increasing percentage wise (and obviously in pure numbers). I say this because there are still a lot of French immigrants from Northern African countries and Muslims have more kids than native French (Census stats).

Also from CSmonitor article:
"Europe's Muslim population has tripled in the past 30 years, fueled by immigration from North Africa, Turkey, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. This rapid growth "questions our ... ability to integrate" them, warns Patrick Weil, a French sociologist."

And obviously Europe's population has trippled since the late 70's.

Also concerning growing rates as a percent of the population:

France
Take France for example, the Muslim portion of the population increased from one tenth of a percent to 2.7 percent between 1900 and 1970. In seventy years the Muslim portion of the population increased 27 fold. That is a growth rate of almost 5 percent a year above that of the rest of the population.

Between 1970 and 1990 the Muslim portion of the population more than doubled to 6.8 percent. That is still close to five percent a year faster than the rest of the population, virtually identical with the growth rate of the previous 70 years.

However, between 1990 and 2000 the Muslim portion of the population only increased slightly from 6.8 to 7.1 percent. In the last five years of the millennium it only increased a tenth of a percent, from 7.0 to 7.1 percent. At the rate established in the last half of the nineties it would take about two and a half centuries for the Muslim portion of the French population to double and about seven centuries for the French Muslims to become a majority.

Hope that helps.
