I am a smoker and about to take my first trip to France. I was wondering whether to take cigarettes with me or not. I don't want to have to pay a fortune for a pack of cigarettes, when I can buy them before I go for $27.00 a carton (200/cig). But I am only taking one carry on bag with me and didn't want to take up precious space if I could get the same brand for a reasonable price in France.

I can't tell you the exact price but I know they are heavily taxed in France. Of course, common American brands are sold everywhere in France. I would recommend buying a carton at a US airport before leaving. Prices won't be more "reasonable" in France.

Take them with you. Cigarettes in France are very expensive because of very high taxes. At current exchange rates the price is about $7 a pack.
Some American brands are readily available in France, Marlboros, for example, are found just about everywhere.
