What is the typical style for college students in Paris, France, during the Winter season? |
Im going to Paris, France for a semester beginning in September. Coming from San Diego, im not really used to the cold weather and have NO idea what I should be bringing in regards to clothing. My grandmother is trying to prepare me by buying full parkas! I dont think i would fit in well with a jacket like that.
I want to blend in well with the parisians, so any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks! Additional Details m going to Paris, France for a semester beginning in September. Instead of trying to describe what college students are wearing why don't you take a look at what people are wearing in these little videos of various cafes, bars and restaurants in Paris.

Well, no matter the season the french always wear black. So I'd recommend a black pea coat. Black boots can go with any outfit ( but please, no uggs) and the Parisians love their boots.
To add some color, stock up on scarfs. The scarf is the best accessories one can have while in Paris.
As for other accessories, just bring a pair of black gloves and a black hat.
hope this helped! |

Scarfs, scarfs and scarfs. People start wearing jackets and scarfs well before it starts getting cold. It already is cold here, so winter clothes are out of the wardrobe! Look at what people wear in cities like New York, it'll be similar here, although Parisians often go for quite mute colours. Remember, you're going to a city, not the Alaskan tundra, so although it might only be above freezing, you're never far away from a shop to dive into to get warm.
I say, jacket (usually wool, not leather), gloves and scarf. Boots for shoes. Jeans. |

Well, you can take uggs/boots if you want, some people wear it, some people not, that depends on your style, your choice....
A lot of people have Converse. You can wear pump as well.
Indeed most of the time we wear dark colour, however I have a red coat and a white coat. Just wear in what you feel comfortable.
I already wear gloves (leather, wool...), scarf (you definitively need 1, because it could be quite windy in Paris), after if you like hat, cap, beret....
In fact that depends if you're very sensitive or not to the cold.
I forget to say, that it has already frozen here.
Well, otherwise we wear jeans the whole year, skirt (with leggins, pantyhose...), short (with pantyhose).
Quite often we have a thin poloneck jersey, because like that you can have more clothes on you, and that keeps you warm. One of the problem could be, when you're are outside it's reall cold, but once you're inside, sometimes that's so hot.
As a matter of fact, you can have a look to the website of Camaieu, Mango, H&M, Zara, Esprit, Etam for clothes, concerning the shoes, there are San Marina, André, Eram....Just to give you an idea.
Just avoid the look "bonhomme Michelin"

You know there are some kind of coat, that just looks like it, could be okay if you're a child, but for student, not really great.... |

Uggs are fine. The french, specially the young generation dress much more casual then people are used to. A nice long and warm winter coat is going to be handy, have a nice scarf b/c the wind will kill you, and gloves. Have comfortable shoes (Uggs are great) and an umbrella. Have at least one pair of shoes other than the boots.
and usually they keep the inside of the building really warm in France 9much warmer than you are used to in the US) so wear layers, so you can take them off/ put them on as you step in/out of the buildings (and merto) |

I don't know about buying parkas (we are not in the Pyrenees or the Alps), however it does get cold here in Paris. So bring several at least one parka, sweaters, a couple scarves, and gloves. And bring an umbrella. It may not snow a lot here often but imagine being in the COLD rain which that does happen often. |
