What neighbourhoods in Paris should tourists absolutely avoid visiting? |
I know that every city has its dangerous places, even the "Ville Lumère", so I would like to know what zones I should not go to.
Thank you in advance. |

You can walk anywhere in the day in Paris. It is very safe. I would avoid walking at night in the 18,19,20. The Champs-Elysees can get sleazy on the weekend nights. I'm of the opinion that the 5th Latin Quarter is boring and trashy. I wouldn't spend much time there. 7th and 16th are residential. 8th is where the party is. 13 is Chinatown. 6th has great little cafes and bars, especially in the Rue des Canettes/Rue Princess area. I would stick with the 1, 6, 7, 8 if I were you. These are my favorites. |

I don't think there are "dangerous" places you have to avoid IN Paris. The only place I don't like is near Porte de La Chapelle (north of the 18th arrondissement), and the area near the Place des Fêtes (19th arrondissement). But you can go there in the daytime, it's not THAT bad. Paris is rather safe for a relatively big city. As a tourist, you really have to be careful when you go to places with lots of people because of pickpockets.
But there are places I would avoid outside Paris, especially in the north. |

When you get there. Ask a Taxi Driver. If you do not Believe them, then ask a Cop. Very good way to find out where Not to Go Anywhere. |

I'm not crazy about the area immediately around Gare du Nord, but that's the only place inside the city that I felt uncomfortable in my 5 visits. |
