I RENTED A CAR FOR A MONTH AND IT COST ME ABOUT $500.00 BUT YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL, CHECK THE CAR OVER FOR DENTS AND SCRATCHES AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS WRONG AND MAKE SURE THAT IT IS PUT ON THE DIAGRAM OF WHAT IS WRONG OTHERWISE YOU WILL PAY FOR IT. THE BEST THING IS TO RENT THE CAR HERE IN THE STATES FROM AN INTERNATIONAL RENTING AGENT AND HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU THAT KNOWS ABOUT CAR RENTALS ABROAD.

Renting a car will be expensive,so they should travel in their own car with comprehensive insurance risk cover.

DRIVING IN EUROPE IS NOT FUN -- or economical. There are high petrol prices, taxes, fees, insurance and rediculous urban traffic and toll roads to deal with.

I would suggest...(a) Immediately find a girlfriend with a bitchin' car, (b) steal a car, (c) HO for a car, (d) hide in someone's trunk, (e) come to think of it, you may not have many options other than renting.

As you know, rental car companies (called car hire in Europe) do not like to rent to anyone under 25. You can't rent in France if you are a teen. A 19 year-old can rent in Austria and Italy, and a 21 year-old can rent a car in Germany. Young drivers pay extra fees because of the (calculated) risk the pose to the rental company.

If I were you I would try a rideshare bulletin board and locate some other people who are going where you need to go...then share the expenses with them. It is a universal system that seems to work well in Western Europe. Find a college-oriented site in or try craigslist.org and click on Paris or another major euro-city. You can meet europeans this way, but there are also shtloads of Americans in Europe every summer...and all year. Find them. Share.
