A New York jazz compilation
A Manhattan-related book
Glossy, high-quality magazines (they love American Vogue !)

Anything state-themed is good. Anything "USA" themed is BAD. They'll never wear hats, but nice shirts are always a plus. Forget the M&Ms - you can find those at Carrefour !

Most food / clothing items aren't good to bring - it's kind of like giving an American a hamburger =]

Hope it helps !

your selection looks good, it's the gesture that will be appreciated - everything is ok except the M&Ms that we can get everywhere. An Obama campaign souvenir would be fun, too ! The French feel a little bit as if they elected him.

Be careful to pack well the maple syrup, I had a disastrous experience once.

I am also doing an exchange except i am coming from London, that is a pretty good idea though to give them a token of where you come from. I am sure they have maple syrup there because we have it in britain, you might even find they have m+m's too. I think you should give her some american magazines and stuff or maybe an american band CD, something like that would be really cool.
