What to see/do on my second Paris trip? |
On my last trip, I saw (probably with bad spelling, sorry):
Notre Dame
Eiffel Tower
Some of the Louvre
Orsay
Musee de Cluny
Victor Hugo's House
Musee de Army
Napoleon's Tomb
Sacre Cour
Pompidou
Place de la Bastille
Champs Elysees
Arc de Triumphe
several parks (Luxembourg, Tuillieres, etc)
So, on my second trip, which lesser-known things should I see? What are good cafes/parks to spend the day in? Are there places on the outskirts that I should see? Thanks! |

I really like the Rodin museum and its garden. Also the Palais Royal and Jardin des Plantes if you didn't already go there. There's also the flamboyant Gothic cathedral of Ste. Chappelle. Did you see La Madeleine and the Pantheon? You could wander through street markets on rue Montorgueil or rue Mouffetard. Also, there's a huge flea market at St. Ouen. Did you take a Bateaux Mouche cruise on the Seine? There's a tethered hot air balloon at Parc Andre Citroen that I've always wanted to do. At least, it used to be there. I also really like just walking around the city, window-shopping and losing myself on little streets, till I'm exhausted and ready for hot chocolate at a cafe.
You could take day trips to Versailles or Fontainebleu, or even Chartres or Mont St. Michel. |

rose t gave good ideas. you cd go :
- out of paris to see the royal castles (Versailles, Fontainebleau).
- if you like old typical places and streets, the best places in paris are the Marais (between Bastille and Beaubourg) and the Quartier Latin (between Saint-Germain and Maubert).
- back to the Louvre... neverending museum...
- a really interessant museum is also the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arabic Civilization Institute) : very various expositions (last one about Phenicians).
- Quai Branly Museum : museum of "primitive" civilizations (dunno the exact word in english) : africa, oceania, america...
- la Défense : it's out of paris but very close, the place with great towers. some are interesting : the Grande Arche, the CNIT, Total Cie tower... go between 12.00 and 2.00 pm, lots of businessmen walking...
but what you shd discover is the "parisian way of life" : cafés of the Marais and Saint-Germain are very typical ; bars and clubs around Bastille, Grands Boulevards, Saint-Germain or even Champs-Elysées... depends of what kind of music you like.
so just live as parisian people, meet other persons, speak with (even if you dont speak french, many persons in paris speak english) !! |

You could go to the famous cemetery Pere Lachaise where there are lots of famous people's graves (like Jim Morrison, and Fredryk Chopin), or visit the underground catacombs.
Did you see the Opera House? |

Don't focus on seeing the popular stuff, that's for sure.
Just walk around! Make no plans and frolic from cafe to bakery. |

The Rodin Museum - a beautiful villa and garden with wonderful Rodin sculpture and the small but exquisite collection of work by Camille Claudel
the beautiful Place des Vosges
Outside Paris
