Keep it very simple. If you're going to dinner at the hotel wear a simple black dress with black pumps. Keep the jewelry and makeup to a minimum, too. Make sure your nails and hair look nice.

I see no reason why you can't wear jeans with a nice crisp white shirt and blazer w/ maybe some ballet flats and simple hoop earrings if you're going sightseeing.

If you're traveling in the winter a black wool (cashmere ONLY if it's in your budget) double breasted coat (not too long if you're wearing slacks) looks very classy for leaving and entering the hotel. You can brighten it up with a wool scarf. Black leather gloves work like a charm with this ensemble, too.

Turtlenecks also tend to make anything look good. They're simple enough and yet classy. If you can afford to get one in cashmere (black, camel or even a dark lipstick red) it would be a very good investment. You'll wear it for years.

If you wear perfume keep it to a minimum. You never want to overwhelm anyone with your scent. Just a tiny bit behind your ears and wrists is enough. More than that is overkill!

I wouldn't worry so much about your clothing as long as you keep it simple and you're well groomed.

Assuming you live in North America, people generally dress up a lot more than we do in here. Men, women, or even children.

So just notch it up. And if it is a fancy hotel, notch it up even more.

skip, and skip: Sneakers, sweat pants.... and I do not mean it in the hotel, I mean it in general.

It would depend on your personality - on how can represent yourself. If it's going to be a really posh hotel - the staff wouldn't mind what you are wearing

But I would suggest you to go out in the evening with a neat dress. Especially if you are going to eat at the hotel's restaurant. During the day - it doesn't matter at all, because I think you are not going to stay at the hotel all day.

i would wear nice pants, like not jeans or faded or ratty looking pants, wear dress pants. and nice skirts or dresses are good too. and just wear dressier shirts, like not t-shirt material, something nicer and fancier. and dont wear stuff with writing on it. that should be fine for a hotel.

Any casual-chic city wear will be appropriate. If you try to overdo it it will look vulgar instead of classy. So relax and just wear clean, nicely cut casual clothes with nice shoes. These are clothes you can wear both outside and in the hotel's restaurant. Just wear more comfortable boots when walking in the city and city shoes with a little heel in the posh restaurant: http://www.promod.fr/citadin/index.html

It's more about attitude and how you hold yourself that matters than the clothes themselves.

you wear what you want to wear. noone in a hotel is going to tell you what to wear or how to dress.
be casual and first day when you go there feel the atmosphere, the way people are and adapt.
