What to wear to Paris next week?

I am traveling to Paris next week with 3 other ladies. I am 45, fashion savvy, but currently mentally stressed over what to bring -- any suggestions?

In Paris, the Parisian women tend to dress up a bit more than in American cities, for example.

First of all, you need to dress for comfort. Comfortable shoes are a top priority. You will be walking a lot of miles (just in the Louvre) and climbing a lot of stairs...blisters are not fun.

Women in their 40s dress up more than younger women in their 20s...the younger crowd wears jeans and the European sneakers.

There is a lot of black in Paris...the clothes are fitted, sometimes a little too fitted. And some women wear tight leather pants to the grocery store. You'll see a variety of different fashion styles...just wear what you feel comfortable in (but please no track suits) and you'll have a great time.

If you want to spice up the basic black wardrobe (it's true: Layering is a great idea!), you can always bring scarves and jewelry to add spice to your wardrobe...just not expensive jewelry. Or you can always shop for scarves and other accessories to brighten up your wardrobe. EVERYONE wears a scarf in Paris. And that's half the fun---shopping. You can hit the souvenir shops on Rue de Rivoli (across from the Louvre...one of the best places for souvenirs) and Galeries Lafayette...they have some really good sales.

A coat is a must...it does get chilly. It seems as though black leather is the way to go. Also, an umbrella is a good idea.

A red rubberized alligator jumpsuit is the latest in
paris these days.

This question comes up a lot. While the other answers are very good, here's a bit of realism - this is a site with what is actually worn on the streets of Paris: http://www.teengirlclothing.com/StreetChicpmarch04.html

So relax and stop stressing - even Parisians are only human ;-)

You should bring probably a dress at least make colorful but white or black might do just as good.

Simple, classic clothes that you can layer. Paris at this time of year can still be very cold. Sunglasses and a good bag are essential. Don't forget that Paris is great for shopping so don't bring too much. Hope you have a good time.
