Avoid Paris. It's a dirty, unfriendly and depressing place to live if you don't have much money. You need to be a rich tourist or have a good very good job to be able to live at a decent level. The housing situation is BAD, rent is very expensive so everyone has to live in shoebox-sized appartments. Many immigrants - including from other European countries - have to share appartments, even rooms, if they can find a landlord who wants to rent to non-French nationals.
I'd say avoid France in general, it's really not a nice place to be foreign. |

I agree. Anything In the countryside, you´re always gonna find people who are patient and would help you.. On the other Hand Parisians are very rude and unfriendly towards tourist or people that don´t speak fluent French.. ( I am just giving my opinion from the times that i´ve gone) nothing ever changes in them.. ( I speak Broken French, but its not enough for them)...... Come To Barcelona, the fashion industry is booming here... hehee
Take Care...

i lived in paris for a month, and honestly, i have never been around a ruder group of people in my entire life. they have the mindset that if you are not parisian you aren't worth the time of day. Men would pretty much grope me in the underground and people just pretended not to see. I would wait in line at mcdonalds and watch the cashier talk to the hott american boy in english, but when it came my turn to order she pretended she couldn't speak it. Shop clerks would ignore you. Its such a beautiful city but it smelled like piss.
The french people in the surrounding country side couldn't have been sweeter though. |

I don t live in Paris, but in Nantes, a town near Britany.
We moved from paris to nantes 9 years ago, and first of all, you have to know that a lot of parisians decide to move "en province", especially in Nantes because this town, according to a study ffrom government offers the most agreable frame to live.
Living in France, well, Now that we have this new president thing are going to turn like in the USA, the rich richer and the poors poorer.
In france, you can study almost for free. If you study in a university, the year will only cost you about 500euros. France is very proud of her scholarship system that allows anybody to make long studies.
France is, or was, a very social country. The state financially support you in many ways, health, dole, aids to study, to rent a flat...
The average wage is about.... 1300euro net. The minimum wage is about 1000euros net. The minimum wage (le SMIC) is 8,27euros brut.
If you want to rent a flat, you have to know the Real estate sector is not in a good situation these days in france. To qualify for renting something, you have to earn three times the amount of the rental, or you need to have your parents supporting you, I mean legally. Prices are high, especially in paris (from 700euros to.........????) and don t expect a palace! For 700eur you have a bedroom, bathroom, lounge and kitchen in the lounge. But you can try to find little houses to rent outside the city, or try roomate system, it is developping in France.
Concerning work. you work 35h/week in almost every companies but finding a job isn t easy in france, we're far from full employement.
Gas is expensive, unleaded: 1,30 euro/litre, diesel 1,10 euro/litre
One last thing, french Women do depilate armpits legs and everything you have to depilate, ok? I don t know where you guys found that idea that we didn t! |

avoid it.its a dirty over crowded city.ive been mugged twice in a year, the administation is a nightmare(you need papers just to break wind).the tourist attractions are even getting worse cos of pollution staining the buildings and the french idleness to clean them.rosbif is right if you dont have much money then you are basically screwed.i only live here cos my wife is french but we cant wait to move up north.
good luck anyway |

Paris is a beautiful fantastic city and the people are the kindest, most polite I have ever met. I've been living here a year now and have to say it's the best place I've ever lived in.
French people are actually quite polite and are very careful with how they treat people. when they are 'rude' it is only as a response to preceived rudeness. They are very formal people and you must use their language (or at least try) - this should be logical (americans don't like it when you speak spanish so the french don't like it when you speak english!). You must also use the correct greetings. If not they consider this to be quite rude and will respond very coldly. But if you use the correct words they are quite warm, friendly, generous, and kind (just like anyone else).
Working is Paris is difficult but not impossible. Lots of job as english teachers here. |

i heard the french hate american tourists because the eiffel tower is crawling with tourists at like 3 in the morning...so since you're not from france, they probably won't like u too much at first until you become more like them...
not that you're a bad person, because i don't kno you, but because u'r not from france...
idk if that helped any >.<'' |
