When's the best time to visit Paris?

What season or month, do you think, is the most optimal time to visit Paris and enjoy its overall splendor?

Late Spring is ideal to visit Paris and its surroundings.

- Long days also mean that some places (parks, museum) stay open a bit longer

- The weather is generally finer than in April, but still not 100% predictable. In 2006 : some very rainy days in mid-May and a short heat wave in June.

- Numerous events take place in May/June: fête de la musique (late June), festival de Cannes, Roland Garros, 24 hours of Le Mans...

- There will be lots of holidays in early May (1rst, 8th) this year: Paris will be less crowded.

May or September. In May, flights are cheaper and hotels are slightly expensive and vice-versa in September. But the weather is great. June - August are expensive and most locals are vacationing outside the city, so there's nothing really going on. I find this site very useful for such questions: www.hotwire.com/tripstarter

Not sure, however; I do know that most of Paris shuts down for an extended monthly holiday in August, I believe. So make sure you don't go then.

July or August, during children vacations. 4 good reasons:
1) Paris is empty during this period: Parisians generally go in the South of France. And Parisians who stay are less stressed!
2) Days are longer and it doesn't rain often
3) Some streets are closed to cars
4) You'll see events like national day (7-14), last stage of Tour de France and even beaches ("Paris-plages")!
Enjoy your trip!

" I love Paris in the Springtime "
Fall is nice too, but remember the daylight hours are shorter in the fall.....

May and June, the days are long and sunny. July can be a good time, because French are on vacation (Parisians leave Paris, so the city is more quiet, metros are not overcrowed ...) but often hot. These 3 yrs we had very hot temperatures (more of 35°C). regarding the hotels, they are expensive in June due to the congress, exhibitions and show. Avoid this year the time from 17 to 24 june, there is the Air Show (about aeronautic, army ...) hotels are full and very expensive.
Bye, have fun in Paris and Bienvenue (welcome)
