Lille and Strasbourg.

Both of them are in N. France, but Lille is west and Strasbourg is east.

Arras is nice too: lovely market place in the Flemish style, nice restaurants, good museum. It's 50 minutes North of Paris on the TGV.

The great town in Nothern France is Lille.
There are an interesting old area to visit.
(Strasbourg is also a beautiful town but it's in East, just near Germany)

Boulogne sur mer is also interesting, it's a harbour.

Le Touquet is on the coast just few km under Boulogne.
Le Touquet is a very beautiful beach, a kind of riviera of Nothern France !

Calais and Dunkerque are 2 important towns to see also.

Definitely Metz. I love the people and the shopping there. Go to a café there called "Pauls" the eclairs there are excellent.

Boulogne-sur-Mer was nice once you get past the harbour. The upper part of town is nice and has a pretty enough cathedral.

As far as northeastern France, I highly recommend Strasbourg and Metz.

clementine
Valenciennes. It's south of Lille and smaller but still has a lot of stuff to do. Everyone there is really friendly (like most people in northern France) because they don't get so many tourists and there's a new tramway that just opened in September.

Cherbourg, Bologne,Calais, and Dunkirk, to name four.

There are really nice towns like parts in Brittany if you like the ocean and rocky beaches. They have large drop offs on the coast and lots of light houses. There is also Mont De St- Michel...its a castel in the ocean and you can cross at low tide...
