Where are the best and cheapest places to stay and eat in paris? |
I'm planning a weekend trip to paris with my boyfriend later on this year, i have read a little in a couple of guidebooks, and websites etc, just wondered where the cheapest places to eat, stay (but still niceish, we dont want rats chewing our toes or anything) and visit? As I am a student the money is a big issue. Any suggestions would be most helpful. thanks. |

I believe you're British so I'm translating prices into British pounds. I'm also going to assume that if you're having a weekend in Paris with your boyfriend that I should read that as "a romantic weekend."
My favorite Hotel, the St. Andre des Artes is both charming and cheap. A double will cost you 85 euros, breakfast included, which is about £57 Its located at 66 rue St. Andre des Artes in the 6th arr. (metro stop:Odeon). There are hostels that are cheaper and even a few hotels that are cheaper but for location and quality this one can't be beat.
For a romantic restaurant try Le Coupe Chou. check out their menus here:http://www.lecoupechou.com/index.php?action=rubrique&id_rubrique=36453&PHPSESSID=17d8ae5ee71ea0e209cf3313d06d8e58
As you will see the "menu" (ie.fixed price meals) runs from 22 to 32 euros (£15-£22) per person.
The Bouillon Racine at 3 blvd Racine in the 5th is also nice. Check out there website at http://www.bouillon-racine.com/main.htm. They have "menus" at lunch for 15.50 euros and dinner for 26 euros (about £10 and £17.50 respectively)
Now if you're looking for seriously cheap food then I suggest you check out any of the many sources of street food. Gyros, sandwichs, crepes and such like are readily available from street stands and good value for the money.
And for the cheapest food, students who have an identity card from any University anywhere in the world are entitled to use any of the 17 university restaurants where a full meal can be had for 2.60 euros (about £2). check out their website for locations: http://www.crous-paris.fr/restauration/index_en.asp (Cheap drink too!) |

to eat, i would never go to paris without having at least one meal at Chartier. It is in the Grands Boulevards area in the centre. The interior of the restaurant is almost unchanged since it was created in about 1888 and it is worth a trip just to see it.
Despite its good reputation and location, prices are surprisingly reasonable; entrées start at 2-3 euros, mains around 9-10 euros.
They have a website in French and English;
www.restaurant-chartier.com
click on 'a table' to see the day's menu and prices. |

If you are not to picky I can recommend a hostel near place de la republique. It's situated at the boulevard Jules Ferry 8. Cheap, clean, and outside of high season fairly peacefull. you are 500 metres away from the republique metro station. If you need any dinner suggestions try a little restaurant I swear by when I visit Paris it's called L'occitanie and is located at rue oberkampf nr 96 a lovely restaurant just around the corner of the hostel I mentioned. You must try their speciality confit de canard (marinated duck) and as for price they are quite reasonable. Enjoy your visit to paris. |

close to the Place d'Italle subway station, there are a few restaurants served 3 courses meal for 10 - 12 euro . The musseels are excellent and the portion is great
this restaurant "ALsace" is located on Avenue Des Champs ( right across street of the Adui car dearership and the restaurant can see Arc De Triompre. they have 3-courses and 5-courses meal for 2-35 euro. We like it so much , we went back twice.
Paris is beautiful. subway is very convenient - do not forget to bring a 2" x 1" photo - you can buy a week pass = it is much cheaper. Do not miss the 10 p.m. show for the Effie Tower - it is so romantic,
watch for pit pocket - they use razor blade and cut your backpack or purses
Cann is soso - you can take a little tram to tour for an hour
Nice and Leon is no big deal
there is a travel agency in Europe - I join the tour for $ 48 /day including hotel, tour guide and tour bus. tip for the driver and tour guide is $5 the tour guide speak Chinese , English and Dutch
www.amttravel.com
www.GOEUGO.COM
or you can call The Netherlands phone number 31 10 213 02 08
it is very cheap and the hotel is very nice - it included morning breakfast buffet
do not forget to bring the water bottle w/ you - you cannot drink the tap water
summer is very hot in Paris - but it is so much to see - do not forget to pick up a free map in the hotel lobby - if you want to buy
expensive stuff, eg LV purses. - you need to bring your passport to the stores
and get the tax refund in the airport |

Hi, agreeing with Rillifane's above answer - I recently stayed in Hotel St Andre des Arts - lovely hotel, beams in the ceilings in all rooms, basic but clean and very central (5 mins walk to Notre Dame cathedral). Breakfast is only coffee/tea/chocolate plus bread and jam though.
Lots of little restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops nearby. We booked via www.123france.com. - there are lots of other options on there too. It's only a one star but far better than many other one stars. Ignore the website pictures, they don't do it justice.
Try to get a room on 1st floor, as no lift! |

We have found that McDonald's is always the best and the cheapest anywhere in the world including Paris, thats where we ate when we visited Paris last year. |
