Where can I find a supermarket like Tesco in Paris? |
Additional Details I'm going on a road trip around France starting in Paris, and I need to buy some camping equipment and some food supplies. I'm sure that local markets would be the best choice to find some fresh foods, but I'm actually looking a big supermarket where I can buy everything in just one place because I'm only staying a few hours in Paris.

Well, there are plenty of supermarkets in Paris and even more in the suburbs. How about telling us what quarter you will be in, and then we can give you some help.
But there is really no need to bring your own supply of baked beans with you.
There are several chains of "general" supermarkets, along the Tesco lines: Casino, Leclerc, Monoprix. Then there are some slightly smaller ones, like Franprix. Then you have the "hard discounters" like ED, Leader Price and Lidl. In the suburbs you have Auchan and Carrefour, which are huge (compared to Tesco).
But I'm not going to list them all, with their addresses. After all, would you ask someone to list all the Tescos in London?: |

There are supermarkets to be found throughout the city. These types of grocery stores are referred to by various names, such as superette (a really small version), supermarché, or hypermarché, and they include brands such as Ed, Franprix, Leader Price, and Monoprix. |

Why? There are great food markets - try Rue Mouffetard, Belleville on a Tuesday & Friday, Rue Lepic in Montmartre; there are LOADS! For fancier stuff or presents skip Fauchon or Hediard on Place Madelaine (they are horrendously expensive) and go to Le Grand Epicerie in Bon Marche - it's brill. If you must, the main supermarket is Carrefour.
The best way to shop at Tesco in Paris is to do it online at the airport before you leave and arrange to have it delivered to your home when you get back so you don't have to go yourself. |
