From Paris, the nearest beaches are in Normandy. You have a choice of destinations there (from north to south/west):
- Etretat (pebble beaches and cliffs)
- Honfleur (old town, typical harbor)
- Deauville, Trouville and Houlgate (large sandy beaches, typical seaside resorts)
- Arromanches and area further west (D Day beaches)
- Manche western coast (coast of the 'havres')
- Mount Saint Michel bay

You may also choose Britanny's closest towns, which are a bit further west
- La Turballe
- La Baule
- Carnac
- La Trinité sur Mer
- Quiberon (sea resort located on a peninsula)

The above answer is really good. For the beach, I'd especially recommend Deauville--It's a classic French beach town, historically very sophisticated.

You might want to go to Reims, about 1 1/2 to the East (by train or car). It's the city where all the Kings were consecrated and is in someways the birth place of France; there are lots WWI and WWII sites and museums in the area as well.

If you can get to Mont St Michel, you won't regret it. It's very impressive.

The area around Deauville is good, just note: the Normandy
beaches can get crowded with tourist around June 6 (D-Day).
Mount St Michelle can be fun also, but again, expect lots of tourist.

These kids know what they're talking about. I second Etretat and Deauville. Amuse-toi bien!
