Provence is a part of France
It's not administratively a region, but we could say it's the south part of the southeastern France.
Provence is bound by the Alps and Italy to the east and the Rhône River to the west, with the Mediterranean Sea providing its southern border.

it's a very nice region with mediterranean climate.
Along all the mediterranean seaside you will find beaches, creeks and calas (=calanque in French, I'm not sure for the translation)
The hinterland is as lovely as the seaside, you can visit many small old towns that are among ones of the more beautiful in France, with colorful stones.

You will also in the countryside smell odor of some blue lavender fields, see oliver grove (olive wood), hear cicadas and cricket calls, when night is falling.

Maybe you will have to learn how to play pétanque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A9tanque) , or belote (a game card : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belote) while you are sipping a pastis on a bistro terrasse.
It said also that there, in South of France, people are more spontaneous and warm-blooded than the in North ; but it's not a good minset that making generalities about people according where they're from

It is the South of France and its main town is Marseille. It is in the mid 30s in Summer and about 16 in winter.

Provence is the region of France south of the Alps and between Italy and the Rhone river.
Temperatures can reach 40 degrees in summer

South east and dammed hot in the summer. Ive sat sweating under a 40 degree sun in July and it was not fun at all

It is in south eastern France towards the Cote D'Azure. The towns that I know of are Orange, Arles & Avignon it is stunningly beautiful. The temprature is always good but the Mistral does give a strange end to the day.
