If your starting point is Paris and don't want to drive 12 hours a day, then here are your options:

- Normandie. Anywhere coastal is nice and different everywhere you go but it's more apple cider country than wine country. You'll find French wine everywhere though! Northern Normandie has beautiful white cliffs (look for info on Etretat). You may also go to the Mont St-Michel area which is at the border between Normandie and Brittany and visit Northern Brittany (around St-Malo). There the coast gets rocky and more picturesque.

- The Loire valley with its castles and wines. Very nice too and historically interesting but the water will be the river, not the ocean.

- Burgundy is hilly and picturesque and you'll definitely be in wine country! You would enjoy visiting Beaune and Vézelay for instance, as well as the wine estates.

To be honest, Southern France regions have the most impressive landscapes but it's a long drive from Paris. Unless you put the car on the train (auto-train) and then drive once you are there.

But remember, no drinking AND driving. The law is more and more strict on that. Check the regulations before you go.

It's hard to find a place that is NOT picturesque. I drove from Paris down through Dijon and into Lyon. Miles of beautiful vineyards. The Riviera is also beautiful of course; Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo.
