Where is the best place to stay in France ?

I am going to France for 1 week in January with some friends, I am from Australia so I have no idea where to stay ! I would like somewhere that is busy and in the centre of the action, somewhere close to all the tourist attractions, but more importantly a great night life !
Additional Details
I was thinking champs elysees, is this a good idea ?

Montpellier is great!

Young city, lots of students and young people, really good night clubs, sunny (southern France!)...

Do you mean Paris? I think you do since you mention Champs Elysées If you're young, I'd recommend Quartier Latin better suited for younger people, tons of restaurants and discotheques, Notre-dame de Paris nearby and many other fantastic places

No don't listen this parisian pro-parisian.

In France, there were a lot of great place in lot of cities.
If you want a city were night is very great I advise you Bordeaux : neither too big nor too small it is the ideal place to stay for your holiday.

More now this city is on the World Heritage of UNESCO so you have more info about on the net.

ps : Sorry my english who is unborning ^^
