Which American credit cards are most accepted in France?
Any card bearing the VISA logo will be accepted at every business in France that accepts credit cards with two exceptions. Many garages that have credit card operated pumps (Generally Sundays in smaller towns) and the toll booths on motorways will only accept the French Carte Blue.
From 1st July this year VISA will charge your bank 1% on every transaction you make using their card. The bank - of course - will pass this on to you.

We accept Visa, Amex, Mastercard but Visa is by far the most popular. Mastercard comes second and Amex a good third as it has the highest rates and are the most expensive for the shops.

The first three answers are right, but check your credit card company first, most put a 2.8 % or 2.7% extra fee on their use overseas.
You may want to bring Euros with you and use the card for rentals and tours where you may have a dispute.
