Which area should I stay in when I go to Paris later this month?

I am planning a trip to Paris, however I am struggling to find an area to stay in, as I am confused by how far the charles de gaulle airport is from most areas - I was thinking along the lines of the Latin Quarter, if anyone has any better ideas please let me know
Its supposed to be a romantic weekend and I quite like the boutique hotels, however location is the key???

a great cheap hotel in the 7th - short walk to the eiffel tower on a street that is a market during the day is Grand Hotel L'Eveque

it's pretty no-frills...romantic setting....i've stayed there several times with my wife.

i stayed in the Terrasse Hotel, pretty much in the centre of Paris...quite nice and in a good location too. near alot of the main sites to go too.

There is an Ibis hotel close to La Defense just up from the Champs Elysees.. Lovely wo wlak up at midnight. It's not the centre of paris but the mtro will take you anywhere and it is lovely.

The best area to stay in is south of the river - Try the Hotel Lutetia in the Concorde Hotel group. The Ambassador is okay too. These hotels are in very nice locations, very close to shopping and several metro stations.

We stayed in the Brighton Hotel (in 2000) which is across the street from the Louvre and walking distance from Notre Dame, Latin Qtr, and other sights. The Louvre garden is directly across the street and very pretty in summer. There are a couple of sights that I found before I visited that have hotel reviews and sights to see. I will try to find those and edit them into my answer later when I get home from work.

CDG airport is a ways away from this hotel, but a bus will drop you off in Paris and it is about a 20 minute walk to the hotel from there (or 5-10 minute cab ride)

you have to stay in the north of the city, montmarte, it is almost like its own village. its a stones throw from the sacre cour and the "artists square" and the moulin rouge is always worth a visit. just along from "artist square" down a small street there is a cracking wee restaurant which serves fantastic cassoulet. go on line and search for Hotel Des Arts. i stayed there last august really handy for metro and not too expensive either. take the train from CDG into Garde Du Nord and then jump into a taxi to the hotel. hope you have a smashing time you lucky devil!

depends where your talking about.....the charles de gualle is a bit far from the heart of paris..remember the place is huge...but if you want to be where all the tourist spots are...then i suggest the hilton hotel is quite nice.....right next to the shopping center......bit expensive though.....

when we stay in paris and need to go back and forth from the hotel we just take a shuttle into the city. call ahead to your hotel and ask them for names and rates. we only pay about 20-30 euros its might cheaper than a taxi. it is outside of the city. i would recommend the latin quarter there is a nice mecure libertel hotel right smack in the middle of things. great location close to the subway lines and great neighborhood.

CDG is quite outside the city. It's a 40 to 60 Euro taxi ride from CDG to Champs Elysees.

As far as botique hotels go, try http://www.tripadvisor.com and read through some of the reviews. I believe that some of the top parisian hotels on that site are smaller hotels. Don't get sucked into the message boards, though. While some of the people are helpful, it's kind of like here where if they had a different experience than you, they will berate you and tear you apart for telling it. I won't use their forums anymore, but do check out the review pages, with a grain of salt.

Good luck to you in your search. : )
