Which is the best arrondissment to stay in Paris for lively nightlife on the doorstep?

Is the 9th OK, near to Grands Boulevards Metro stop?

The 5th arrondissement is almost certainly the best with the 6th and the 4th running very close seconds.

The 9th is not the best choice in this regard.

NB: the Blvd St. Michel, cited above, is the boundry between the 5th and 6th arrondissments. Odd-numbered buildings on the eastern side being in the 5th arrondissement and even numbers on the western side in the 6th.

I Think that 6th and 5th. In 6th you have Saint Michel with restaurants, bars, etc. (it's my favorite night place). At 5th you have Mouffetard - it is less known "night site" for tourists, but very popular among french people. Also you have not far from 6th and 5th to the very center of Paris - Notre Dame, Place de la Concorde etc.

The 9th arondisment is ok but anyway, in Paris, you can move really easily (using the subway or the bus). So don't worry because the 9th is quite in the center of Paris.

The 5th

The 5th. Around the Place Saint Michel. It's very lively at night.
