Depends where you are comoing from in the Med. If you are coming from the CĂ´te d'Azur, then go up the A7/A6 via Reims. If from Languedoc, take the A9/A75 (which is mostly free!) and go west of Paris. There is a good website for this in English at
http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm . If you can understand a bit of French then also look at http://www.bisonfute.equipement.gouv.fr/diri/Accueil.do which gives the places on the French motorway network where there are problems. |

The quickest route is to avoid Paris altogether. At Beaune, leave the A6 and take the A31, eventually passing through Reims on your way to Calais.
If you wish to skirt Paris, then it depends heavily on the time of day. In theory the quickest way is to follow the A6 all the way to the périphérique, then follow the périphérique anticlockwise round to the A3, then the A1 north. At peak times the A6 gets saturated, in which case it can be better to follow the N104/A104 La Francilienne outer ring road (also anticlockwise) which leaves the A6 at Evry. |

There are 3 ring roads around Paris.
The innermost one, the Périphérique, is usually congested and I suggest you avoid it.
You can use any of the 2 other ones: the A86 (25 km diameter) or the Francilienne (50 km diameter). |

Quickest would be keeping on the toll motorway right on to the peripherique ring road and take your chances. Traffic is almost always heavy on the ring but it does move. Know your exit point well in advance. |

Take the "Perephique" (unsure of spelling) it is the orbital ring road around Paris. |
