Why are there no ferries from the UK to mid or southern france? |
There are ferries to Spain, why not to La Rochelle or Biarritz? Additional Details The ports I mentioned are indeed on the west coast, in mid and southern france.
The best wine and wineries (arguably) comes from the south of france not the north.
In the EU, personal transportation of wine and spirits is exempt from import duties, so it is much cheaper and better quality than the UK.
You can't take much wine on the train and definitely not on a plane.
It's a 10 hour drive back up the northern ports, which is a long way without an overnight stop, especially with children
There are ferries to Northern Spain (Plymouth to Santander), so there is demand |

Lots of ways to get to anywhere in France, but like any commercial venture no profit means no service in other words if it doesn't pay then they won't do it.
Anyway to look at all the options or at least a lot of them you can check out the website below. |

I'm sorry for not knowing the answer but just have to respond to the flamers.
By using the word "FERRIES", does that not suggest a sea port of some kind.
And just a quick look on a map will show that La Rochelle is mid way down the French coast while Biarritz is indeed in southern France.
But by all means jump in and make complete twats of yerselves |

Most likely it is due to a lack of demand. Bilbao is popular as it removes traveling through France, which is useful for the lorry drivers and some of those who are traveling to Spain or Portugal.
Sailing around the Iberian peninsula would be tough to justify financially as it is the long way round |

Easy,
It's because not enought people need to go from england to Biaritz or spain for exemple, so not a good rentability..
Most prople want to go from englant to france to shop cheap stuff and north of france it's enought.
Also with a plane it's 10 time cheaper and faster to go from england to spain or south france then with a ferry. |

Interesting. Is it true you can't put your car on a train to SW France any more? Would it mean developing the ports of La Rochelle and Biarritz with the concomitant megashopping centre, M&S, Tesco etc? In that case, certainly not. I always think Cité Europe is like the fruiting body on a tentacle of some ghastly superweed that has extended itself down the Channel Tunnel. |

mid france???? ferries cannot travel on land, and as for them to travel around most of europe is a bit daft. It is quicker to get a ferry to callis and drive to the south of france before a ferry can reach portugal. |

I'm assuming you mean the West coast of France? You might want to check an atlas before posting geographical questions.
Because train travel from either Paris, the northern channel ports, and the Chunnel is so easy, there is no requirement for new ferry routes.
RyanAir flies into La Rochelle, so there's no need for a ferry link there. And Biarritz is easily accesible from either the Bilbao ferry or TGV from Paris. |

To mid France I would hazard a guess is land locked. Of course, you can get a ferry to Santander and motor on |

Their are no ferries to Spain.
They are ships, you can't get a ferry to far distance places. |
