Several reasons - first, May is the absolute most gorgeous month to be in Paris. The weather is usually quite mild and everything is in bloom so it's a great time to observe local flora and fauna. Because of this, there are many events centered around the month of May in Paris. One of those is the AES Pro Audio Expo & Convention, taking place from the 20th - 23rd. The Armenian General Benevolent Union has several events and conferences scheduled for the month of May. Alcatel is having a big WiFi conference in Paris from the 16th through the 19th. There is the Orchestre National de Lyon on the 20th, La grande Parade Solidarité Sida (AIDS walk) on the 21st, Carrefour des Passions the 26th through the 28th, Foire internationale du livre ancien (FILA)the 18th - 21st, 5e Festival Femmes du Monde the 2nd - 26th and many, many more! A great resource for local event information is: http://english.pidf.com/page/p-289/

Once there, you can enter your dates and the city and it will bring up a list of everything going on.

Remember, you don't HAVE to stay IN Paris! The outlying areas are gorgeous and the Metro is very efficient and reliable. You can take the trains to just about anywhere in France!
