Why did France want the return of Alsace-Lorraine?

During WWI?

Alsace Lorrain is part of France but we lost this territory during the 1870-1871 War against Germany, it was then normal for us to take it back in 1914 - 1918.

because it had been french for a long time so it was regarded as a part of France ! imagine the USA lose Florida or New-England or any other state in a war, they would probably want to get it back !

During WWI? Alsace and Lorraine (note, they are two separate regions) had been a part of France between 1648 and 1870 so France just wanted its seized territory back...and it succeeded (only to lose it again in WWII and then France got it back again...)

To have it as a buffer zone. It means that the next time Germany wants to invade France they have to go through Alsace and Lorraine first.

A bit like Belgium.

And they have to get past all us dogs first.
