Why do people travel to france by ferry?

because it saves having to hire a car when you get to the other side, and some people, believe it or not cannot afford to go by plane so they drive to the ferry port and then drive to their destination in France!!

We have further to travel to Dover to use the tunnel than if we went by ferry from Portsmouth, but we still use the tunnel as it works out cheaper and quicker, even when you take into accout the extra driving time and the fuel costs. Also we like to take our dog with us and on the tunnel he can stay in the car with us. On the ferry he has to stay on the car deck, while we have to go away from the car deck. I do know what people mean about a disaster though. I feel you would have more chance of surviving on the ferry than in the tunnel.

I've not learnt to walk on water yet, I keep trying!

my sister in law has an issue with transport in confined spaces ie car, bus, train, plane ... actually pretty much anything except for ferries & big boats!

i travel by ferry because if there is a disaster at least i can swim.if you are in the tunnel you have no chance with billions of gallons of water on you.

because its considered more "romantic"

Is that a bit like why did the chicken cross the road?

all the time in the world
using the ferry from portsmouth to caen instead of a dover - calais ferry or the channel tunnel can seriously reduce the amount of time you have to drive when heading to normandy / brittany. it's a similar effect when you take the harwich to hook of holland crossing if you are heading for holland / germany. dover - calais may be the shortest crossing but it's by no means the only

I find it is very relaxing to travel by ferry. It is a good break from driving and an opportunity to have a meal before driving on through France. I have used the tunnel which I find much quicker but not much time for a coffee break.

sarcasticquotemarks
'Cos it's a long swim and all the booze would get wet on the way back.

Today is the day!
Why not! I wish that I could take a Cruise from the states to France. I am sure they probbly have that but I don't know I think when I move over there I will look into it because of my dog I don't want him in the cargo of a plane.

Captain Trips
Because they are afraid to fly or can't afford another means of transportation.
