Why do the French not like Americans?

I've always wondered why the French don't like Americans? Does England people not like us too? I was just wondering.

From a travel aspect, it's that Americans go to France and expect a parade when they arrive. If any single person they meet doesn't speak English, doesn't know where Starbucks is, and doesn't bow to them, the American gets snotty and demeaning. They feel like since it is their dollar (or Euro), they should be able to dictate how people act & feel. They pull the "I'M AN AMERICAN - YOU CAN'T TREAT ME LIKE THAT!!" card. Try that with a French person in America and the hypocrisy shows through.

I have French friends, they think that Americans are naive, controlled by their media (TV, Newspapers), heavy consummers, and with no good general knowledge of the world.
People of many other countries think the same.
Sorry to say so, but that's the way we see it!

Hi!

It's not that the French not like Americans, it's George Bush, the politics and the media that they do not like. As I'm sure you now, France stand on the opposite side of the US politics.

But who says French don't like Americans? The media? Then you should not listen to them.

I'm Norwegian, but I've lived in France for 5 years, so I know the French. They find a lot of things in America strange. Like cheese on a tube.... or marshmallow in the cereal....

But they no not hate Americans, just your politics

paris
Do you really think that Americans like the french language or people? Do you really think that Americans like everybody else than themselves?

Lëtz
We like Americans but we don't like at all G. W. Bush.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Most english have no problem at all with the vast majority of the American people but a lot of people dislike the American government and their influence on the British government.

PS 'England people' are better known as English

i was wondering where you heard this ?
it is all hear say ; i can assure you not all people are all alike in a country .......
i cannot say that i do NOT like Americans or any other people from another country ..
i like people on a personal basis, not based on a race ...))
i went to the US after the crisis with the war with Iraq ......i was not welcome at all at that time (( stores, banks shops And to top it all ? i am an American citizen as well ,it was my accent (....but i imagine it was because of the conflict of France refusing to participate in the war in Iraq :politics ......
now it has calmed down some .......

how interesting ! to read all that stuff !

we don t like a kind of american :
the american people who beleive they are the first one in the world, the one who like to fight and go to war, the one who hate us because we are drinking wine and smoking cigarettes and eating french cheese "camember", a lot of french people don t like bush also, and we don t understand he doesn t react about 9.11.01 or about flooding in mississipi some months ago ....
when american people go to our country , they want to eat mac donalds and that s all .....
they dont want to know us ...

that s why i guess , so many reasons finally ....

wetdreamdiver
The same reason White male Americans don't like Blacks or Mexicans or Canadians or Europeans in general: it's a cultural prejudice that is perpetuated by the media, peers and the political climate of the world at large. Let's face it...nobody really likes anyone else's culture, especially when they don't understand the language and the customs. It's sad, but that's the way it is!

For the same reason that many Americans don't like America. It's what the dominant media tells them to think.

americans have a society built around clockwatching, media, and eating lots of food thats bad for you. Americans do not see the world the same way as europeans. Europeans take time to stop look around smell the flowers more. Also, maybe in the cities they do not like americans because we are flooding their country with tourists who refuse to even try and speak their language. Think of it this way: there are many hispanics who are comming into the United States. Alot of people dont like this because most do not speak english. This can be very frustrating. I recently went to paris and from my experiences, the french people seemed more welcoming when i tried to speak french...even if i souded completely ridiculous. It's all a matter of embracing other cultures...instead of just observing them.

Speaking for me I do like americans, I always had great moment in the US and in France hanging around with americans

Well france has a had a long history of a rivarly with England. The British hated the frence and vice versa for centuries. In the last 100 years the three countries are suposidly allies but after WII, The french disliked the American influence on French culture. English is the primary langauge of the internet and the french teens are being influenced by america and britan, thus diminshing the languge and culture of france.

Its an anglo hate and comerical hate.

Because without America, they would speak German and German's a bizatch to pick up.
