Everyone has their own reasons to visit Paris, of course, but there is much to like there. It is a city full of incredible energy and loaded with history, art, museums galore, architecture, great food and wine, fashion, music, parks, amazing views, fantastic breads and chocolate. Especially bread and chocolate. Try a "pique-nique" on the shores of the Seine, or on a bench with a view of the Eiffel Tower. It's a wonderful place just to walk around.
And Paris is a perfect place to fall in love. Ooooh la la!!
Why are so many movies by filmmakers from around the world set in Paris? The light? The atmosphere? The air? The mood of the city itself? It's that "je ne sais quoi" thing, something indescribable and ethereal.
Like any tourist destination, however, you only bring out of your experience what you put into it. Read Rick Steves' guides about Paris (or anyplace else) and you'll get a whole different understanding of the value of traveling to foreign places. Travel generally can be broadening, if you're open minded, flexible and willing to embrace cultures different from your own.
Paris is special, no doubt about it. The only place in the U.S. that can compare, that has that special something that eludes description or definition, is San Francisco. They're both just plain magical!
Or, as Ego says above, "C'est magnifique!" |
