Why don't French people shower?

Hello! I'm an Aussie businessman who travels quite often. I've stayed in France six times in the past two years. I noticed that most, if not all, Frenchies smell awful--like rotten cheese. I was wondering if anybody knew why don't they bathe themselves?

The mate with the best explanation gets 10 points. Cheers!

I think yon tried to be funny, certainly...
so, let's laugh (ah, ah, ah)
I can't support those kind of clichés, I think it's stupid...
Moreover, don't be afraid, in France, the general opinion about americans is definitely worst than an "awful smelling"

colargol
Pas faux, mais complètemnt ridicule d'en faire une généralité ! Y a des français qui se lavent et sentent bon aussi, tu sais ! Y en a même qui mangent pas de fromage, et qui portent pas de bérets.
I let you translate, because you are certainly a french "super connaisseur" !!

Cabal
I'm French and all the people I know shower daily. I also noticed that most idiots dragging that old hogwash about the French not washing either take one single stinker as a general rule or just want to be rude.
Which are you?

snowsinthedark
Hmmm... Very interesting... I studied in Paris for 3 months and never met the smelly French except for the homeless people. The older ladies wore purfumes that were kind of strong for my tastes, but not aweful or cheap smelling.

Now, the French CHEESE does smell aweful to my American nose. All European cheese in general is something that I am not used to.

Where do you hang out in France that people smell so bad? A sex club for French hippies, maybe?

this is another stereotype

why don't french people shower?
why do americans think they are the boss of everything
why do the british sound as if they got a frog caught in their throat?
why are chinese so dirty looking?
why are the face of koreans so flat?
why are the aussies all drunks?
why are the japanese so evil?

questions and stereotypes like this contributes to misunderstanding and disrespect..

they don't smell mate...they do take showers..france is not a third world country and the french do love to eat cheese but don't you?

why can't we just tolerate and respect?

Good Lord, how did you success to enter in all french bathrooms?

David
Nothing good has ever resulted from, nor ever could result from insulting and degrading caricatures and stereotypes about entire nationalities. They say more about the people who think they're being witty and clever in resorting to them than they do about the nationality those people are attempting to reduce to a trite cliché. French people by and large bathe on a daily basis.

to allow idiots like you to talk bullshit, and to feel less lonely when travelling with Aussies

Jules
Why are you so stupid and racist, I am really fed up by people like you, just ignorant mindless guy who open his mouth for nothing, i know that french people are really hated in
anglo saxon countries , like the jews were hated by the nazis.
But it would be nice if such a hate could disappear once for all.
I am french

Countess
'The French don't shower',mmm!, you'll have to lay on the beach in ST Tropez, watch a Frenchman surface from the sea, strip naked and shower himself before getting dressed.Seen it quite a few times.
The French do have rich diets, lots of garlic and strong cheeses, chances are when they perspire its coming out of their pores.

How do you think we make our cheeses? Between the toes (but it takes a long time).

Under our armpit we make rillettes (a tasty meat specialty), and I let you imagine how we manage to make boudin (very special sausage)...

In addition, water is not this good in France, we prefer Bourgogne or Bordeaux. Better for the skin, worse for the smell.

I suppose some French don't shower for the same reasons people in other countries don't shower. Not everyone has the same concept of hygiene.

Elisabeth
umm...they shower...well, I hope they do.
i dont think they shave though :S

mac77
The French are like the English, just think of William the Conqueror, both enjoy steamy baths.

French man and women are very sensual they like to smell and feel each others scent and you don't know some times when it be you have an encounter with some one so the avoid the foreign scents !!

Robot [CNT]
europe..unlike the u.s. has different customs.

In france, people dont have the same hygenic practises we do, so they dont shower as much. I would like you to know, that it is very rude to say such things to french people or even mention it lighlty..i would stay away from such subjects..
