Why don't the French love America?

Everyone else wants to move to america. Why don't the French look up to the USA?

Because Americans believe in the "French Paradox" - How can the French eat so little and such extravagantly rich foods and still remain thin?

French don't care about what trouble the Americans get into because the are rude to them, and often imagine French Canadians, where as those French who are from France and those who are from Quebec are VERY different.

Also, the "American Paradox" - believing that diet foods will save their health.

France is successful enough on it's own, they don't need to move to the US.

It's generally poorer countries or those w/ political repression that choose to migrate.

Everyone else wants to move to America ?
You are kidding
Not everyone wants to

Rillifane
Not everyone else wants to move to America although I agree that many people do. On the the other hand there are also a lot of people who want to move to France.

The French do like many things about the United States as the popularity of American music, American cigarettes, American movies, American TV, and even (and this boggles the mind) certain types of American food demonstrates.

There is some dislike of the politics and policy of George Bush but then that's hardly confined to the French and just about as common amongst Americans.

And while there is a certain amount of facile anti-Americanism expressed, especially from the Left and sophomoric children, there is also a real appreciation of America as expressed by President Sarkozy in his speech to the US Congress when he said:

"In times of difficulty, in times of hardship, America and France have always stood side by side, supported one another, helped one another, fought for each other's freedom.

The United States and France remain true to the memory of their common history, true to the blood spilled by their children in common battles. But they are not true merely to the memory of what they accomplished together in the past. They remain true, first and foremost, to the same ideal, the same principles, the same values that have always united them."

Most countries like Americans, but hate America for its arrogant bullying foreign policy

The French don't look down on the USA exclusively. They do that to everyone. It wasn't always that way. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French, and they helped us in the Revolutionary War. The country is made up of individuals, and not all of them feel that way. Not all American individuals dislike the French either. Usually the dislike that exists is there because of mutual ignorance. You can't blame them. What they see of America is our tourists (gah!) and our military actions (gah!) and our television (double GAH!). If that's all you had to go on, you might develop contempt for us too.

That's an absolute generalization and big part of the reason why we have the problems we face today in the World. You need to get out of this absurd absolutisms. Have you asked each and every French citizen whether they like or look up to America or not? Have you asked each and every American citizen how they feel about France?

Your generalizations are both presumptive and prejudicial, and a clear sign and product of cultural bias and isolation that tends to treat random statements as fact.

I'd recommend a formal education, LOTS of reading, travelling, understanding other peoples and cultures before you make statements based on what it mostly sounds like ignorance, personal animosity and/or prejudice.

Good Luck!

(I strive to see the best in every culture by the way. American and French cultures both have TONS of greatness about it. You'll agree when you open your mind, visit, study and learn about this beautiful multi-cultural world we live in.)

We love America.
We just don't like Bush, Mc Cain, and Pallin.

That's all.

Sheila is exactly right. I was born in France (American parents) and lived there for 12 years. The French considered me to be French under their laws because they could not see how anyone would NOT want to be French. They have so much pride in themselves and their country that they don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to be them. Kind of like us, huh?

To the French, we are loud, gaudy, obnoxious, and without any class. Upstarts without much history under our belts. They work fewer hours than we do, have excellent maternity and childcare, better use of natural resources, and as a whole are a much happier people. They see us as living in excess, even to the amounts of food we eat. Gathering all these "things" but still aren't happy. And killing ourselves with work.

Why would any country look up to the USA?
Lots of crime, highest obesity rates anywhere, poor education...

slipstreamer
Some do, some don't. I know a few French ex-pats here in the US socially and through work - they are fine with the US. They love American culture more than Americans - go to any Jazz or Blues club and you will encounter a French national. You really can't generalize - that's up to the media :)

I don't think any country needs to "look up to" or love any other country - but I do get annoyed with the hypocrisy and double standards that the US is often judged by. People need to learn to separate the government from the people. Each country looks after it's own interests and always has.

America is hardly the first country to have an "arrogant bullying foreign policy". Open any history book or travel a bit and that becomes apparent rather quickly.

By the way I am a left wing democrat who voted against Bush twice. I disagreed with the war from the first, and am a rather harsh critic of my own government - but I also have no love for self righteous hypocrisy... wherever it springs from.

Cuz...A country needs to hate someone and the French started with an alphabetical order

[Transcendence]
Well as an American my guess would be some countries resent us for our wealth and power. But other countries probably think we're going way out of line when it comes to stepping in on the war and we're negatively stereotyped in some cases. Who knows my guess would be some are jealous and some people are fed up with us.
