Why is Paris so popular with Japanese tourists?

On a recent trip to Paris, I noticed there were a few Japanese bookstores and restaurants clustered in certain areas. The hotel I stayed in even had their breakfast offerings in both Japanese, French and English. The items included miso soup, the Japanese style omlette, rice, and various meats.

And then there is this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6197921.stm

Is there a special relationship between France and Japan? Is it that some Japanese people are simply facinated with Paris? I'm curious.

It's not just Paris. The Japanese tourist is everywhere in Europe, Hawaii, the U.S. and just about every tourist spot in the world. They just happen to be big on world travel and seekers of luxury goods which are so plentiful in France, and they are big spenders. You see large crowds together. Busloads actually. Sometimes all students. The Japanese are just natural born tourists.

The Japanese have always enjoyed American/European culture and use it alot in their Anime's and Manga.
( Japanese animation and comic books )
For an example would be Speed Racer:

PS: At first I thought you were talking about that idiot Paris Hilton who is also popular with the Japanese.

I think that the japanese are fascinated (as the americans) of Paris and we want to welcome them very well (as every visitors).

Are the French as bad as that article makes it seem?

I think Japanese people like to learn about other cultures and travel to those famous, "romanticized" cities like Paris, London, Rome, etc.

That sucks to have those dreams shattered by a few rude people...
