Right, to clarify all the nearly-correct answers above...
Your British TV will not receive French TV channels, as France persists in keeping their own transmission standard (even Belgium have changed, for heavens' sake!).
My solution is to have kept my large British TV for watching dvds and videos on (English video player and tapes), whilst having a small portable TV to watch French TV on (not that there's much worth watching).
To add to LIFs answer, if you do bring your digibox or similar, you must not tell your supplier that you have exported it, as they will cancel your contract immediately. This means NO customer service and no more upgrades/new channels! |

Your TV will work if you change the plug or use an adapter however you will not be able to view any French programmes unless your TV is Secam enabled - in the UK most TV's use the PAL system but some newer TV's also have Secam.
But if you want to only view UK TV then you can simply bring your digi-box as well (if you have one) or buy a satellite decoder and point it at the Astra satellite, then you will receive the freeview UK channels.

You should have no problem, although standard UK electricity was 240 volts now its 230 volt compatible for the rest of Europe.
The two dominant color and resolution standards in television are NTSC and PAL.
NTSC, created by the National Television Systems Committee, is used in North America and Japan.
PAL, Phase Alternating Line, is the TV standard that was developed for Europe |

Yes LIF is correct and all of the others wrong.
The French have their own system called SECAM and the Pal system won't work in France unless you want to use it for British TV. I have a French TV that does not work here.
In Franch you can buy a multi-standard TV that will work here and there. |

As said, every europe country is in Pal, BUT france is secam, but there's no problem for the TV, the only problem you'll have is if you want to watch things you recorded in UK, then, it will be black and white if watched on a french recorder...
PS : to rosbif.... I'm French, living in Belgium, and I had no problem using my french TV here, and I gave my brother (who lives in france) a belgian TV, and there wasn't any problem either... (he just had to reprogram the channels), so I don't see why it would be different with UK (except for the plug of course) |

It will work fine providing the TV doesn't have built in freeview, that might be a problem. |
