Will the French movie industry be overran by the Hollywood?

Do you think the genuine French movies are alive?

Or do you think Hollywood is dominating over them?

No. Hollywood movies do quite well in France and elsewhere, but that doesn't mean that there isn't an audience for local movies. I lived in Paris from 1997 to 2001 and there were plenty of French movies playing in a large number of theaters in any given week. I'm sure the same applies to movie theaters in other cities and smaller towns throughout the country, and I doubt that that's changed much in the last 6 years or so.

Night Hawk
I highly doubt it.
First, only some and very few Hollywood flicks make it a world Premiere in France. most come very late and definitely the french movie industry is evolving and always comes up with new stuff or well known sequels (like Les Bronzés).
Another thing, the french audience who are used to a more artistically pure, simple and realistic cinema are not the best fans of Hollywood, it's a different mentality.

madonna_toller
Nope since french have their special sense of humour! A Hollywood film can't replace it apart from special effects but that doesn't mean too much for them.

Hi in France we 've 50% american movies, 50% french movies !!
But i can tell you, french movies are better in the story but american movies are better made !!

Well in France we are proud to have what we call the French Cultural Exception for music, cinema.

That said our movies are often a big hits in France, but no so in the States or other country. In fact if we want it to be exported, it will have to sold to the US for a remake :
- la Totale became True Lies
- Taxi became Taxi also I think but the French driver was a man and yours a woman
- les Visiteurs also were adapted for the US market but I don't know its name though.

Josh
No, Hollywood still rules movie world man. As long as actors and actresses are getting millons for there roles, hollywood will be instoppable. Don't get me wrong though I would like to see international films be more recognized since some of the films out lately have been really bad.
