Rooster is known to be our national bird ....
... because it continues to sing with the feet in the mud.

There's no national bird or flower, however the rooster was the national symbol for a time (19th and early 20th century) and is still used to represent France, just like the bulldog represents Britain. It and Marianne are represented on this 1914 French coin.

Marianne is the representation of the French Republic and is as close to a national symbol as you can come. She is a woman wearing a phrygian hat and her representation is found in every town hall in France.

Cabal makes a good point. If you can find an older coin (pre-Euro) you should be able to make an image of that for your report. try just searching "France" or "France - Images", and see what that turns up.
