How do you say to take a plane, boat, or any other form of transportation in french. Would you use "went on" instead?

prendre l avion

..
However he could just make a small change to make it right:
J'y suis allé par avion. (I went there by plane)

Marymiss
prendre un(e) avion/bus/bateau, etc.

What cdk8591 says about je suis alle(e) par avion is wrong - the correct way of saying that is "j'ai pris l'avion"

Prendre l 'avion,(plane) le bus, le bateau (boat) le train, le car (coach).

Y aller en avion, bus, car, train, voiture (car).

You can't really translate literally " went on " as it would mean in french that you were actually sitting on top of the plane/bus etc...

You can say

I went there by plane = J y suis allé(e) "par" avion, (but you would say "en" bus, "en" voiture, "en"car, "en" train)

Hope this helped
