18 year old + speedo @ germany waterpark = .......... acceptable or laughable?

Yes, again, it is out of the ordinary for a teenager to wear a speedo. The only guy who I saw wearing one in the public pool last summer is a former sports teacher of mine, and he is around fifty, and he is only doing it to show what he's made of. Teenagers do not wear them outside of swim team practice. So: totally laughable at a waterpark, if not worn UNDER surfer style shorts for protection from total exposure in case of surfer short loss due to unruly and unpredictable currents and circumstances.

@Alwin: That's what I said: Kids wear them for swimming practise IF they are in a swim team. Outside of that, not so much - not to say: not at all. And remember: he is asking about teenagers! Not older guys like my former sports teacher, getting high on the looks he got at the local pool! And I have to say: yes, it is out of the ordinary for a teenager to wear ONLY speedos when he is out at a pool/waterpark/lake/whatever having fun (and probably trying to impress the girls in attendance) ;))

No europeans are more opened minded when it comes to amazingly gay speedos like the one your going to wear.

@frackled, I disagree with you here (and I'm native, too). I think it's perfectly alright to wear speedos, especially when you're on a swim team. Couple of years ago EVERYONE wore them, at least when going into the water, and everything else was considered stupid.

I'd suggest a compromise: You wear your speedos for swimming and some Bermudas over them while "on dry land". At least that's what I would do, but I don't swim in waterparks, only in lakes and such in summer, and of course I wear speedos. (Or nothing at all, for that sake.)

frackled, I'm not making an excuse of me wearing speedos only, but I never visited such a "SpaÃŸbad" (fun bath) in Germany. I only swim in summer in lakes, with speedos on or even without them, because I don't like to swim in a pool that's full of kid's pee, and I don't want to have mothers with their children around me. There's possibilities to swim where you don't have to mind your clothing or political correctness, and that's what I choose.

Let's make this easy for you. Visit the Miramar Swim/Sauna Park(between Heidelberg and Darmstadt) on a Saturday after 6PM - You will not need a bathing suit.
Not sure where 'German Natives' go swimming, but yesterday after work I visited the Rebstock(Sp?) swim hall in Frankfurt and I made a point of noticing what the younger guys wear wearing(Ok, a few females too...) anyway it was mix of Speedo styles, standard swim trunks(think boxer shorts), and longer styles(whatever you wanna call them). Again the Speedo types tended to be doing laps, but I did notice one guy(around 17?) doing laps and after he changed into a longer style to hang out. I also talked with a guy 'Bademeister' who works there. He told me that if too many guys are wearing those longer styles it tends to take too much water out of the pools and whirlpools so they sometimes will not allow them for swimming. But, last night it was mixed and not that many guys were wearing them.
As far as the 'Gay' comments that is so typical American. If a Gay German IS WEARING a bathing suit it will be designer thing like Aussie Bums or something. For a gay man a Speedo is so old fashioned - that's what Mark Spitz wore!
In other words kiddo, wear what you want and what you are comfortable in! Germans and Europeans are far more accepting of the human body than Americans are.

They are absolutely acceptable. Can be even swomething very small. Many of the waterparks have a sauna part, and there it is all nude. You will be in Europe and not in the US!!! With a swimmers body, you will be adored by both women and men, so donÂ´t be surprised about positive reactions.

Speedos are worn in Germany and europe. Nobody laughs. You could be a whale and wearing speedos and no one would care. Put on that sun lotion and speed down those slides as fast as you want.
