A beer in Munich for someone who doesn't like beer?!?

I am also not a beer drinker, but a frequent visitor to Germany.

I love German wines, and most of the places that serve beer will also serve wine by the glass. I love Riesling, lieblich (sweeter), but drier (trocken) Rieslings are avaialble as well as Schereube, Mueller-Thurgau, Gewuerztraminer, and Portuguiser and Dornfelder on the red side. Try a number of them if you like wine.

If you want to be part of the beer-drinking crowd, I suggest you try Radler. It's very mild, a wheat-based beer mixed with soda very much like sprite. It's name comes from bicyclists, for whom it quenches a thirst without getting them drunk. If you like Vodka lemonade, then you may find Radler right up your alley.

the germans are very proud of their beers and it would be a pity to go to Munich and not at least try one
i would suggest a weiss beer
but don't worry about it too much the germans also make great wine

Honestly, try it, or you'll be eternaly regretful...plus: the different kinds of beer in Germany are endless.
And make sure to visit the "Hofbraeuhaus" - very traditional and "gemuetlich"!

Drink a "Radler" that is a beer with a lemonade half and half.
If you like drink a "Stamperl" that is a Bavarian slivovitz.

Before traveling to Germany, I didn´t like beer either. I had never had one that tasted good, and then I dated a German man who introduced me to Franziskaner Weissbier. The brewery is even in Munich, so you´ll find this there. It is AWESOME-it tastes like candy to me-sweet with a mild taste.

I ended up marrying that German man, and now I live in Germany and we always have Franziskaner Weissbier on hand....YUMMY!

most german beers taste very like lager they are very pale coloured.they do also drink apple/pear based `ciders`

If you want to have some 'lighter' drinks in the bee-hall you should ask for 'Radler' - usually a 'Export' or 'Münchner Lager' mixed 1:1 with citron-lemonade (like Sprite') - or 'Russ' -the 'Weizen' mixed with the mentioned lemonade.

But you have usually a variation of different Soft drinks in the Beer-halls / Beer-gardens (some could be open still though it's autumn).

You would hardly find strong liqueurs or vines there.

I am a drinker myself, but there are some beers that are lighter that still taste the same. Although, you should try to find some that say "light" on them, or in worst case scenario, get some liquor.

Chances are not good that you'll be able to get a vodka lemonade in a beerhouse, so just remove that thought from your head right now.

Order a Radler instead. It's half lemon soda and half beer. It's quite tasty and I'll drink them when I still want to drink with the boys but don't want to get **itfaced.

Beerhouses generally serve beer, not cider. You *may* be able to find a cider type drink at a restaurant, but not at places like Hofbrauhaus or Chinese Tern.

I agree that you may want to try a weiss beer as well. A good German Weiss beer is one of the greatest things on this planet. Order one and nurse it the whole time you are in one of the beer houses. : )

What a lucky girl, I think you will love Munich just the same as I did, although I was only there for a couple of days. German beer really doesn't taste like our at all and much lighter, so I suggest you try it before worrying about it. The place to visit is The Hoff Frau House, I know that I have spelt that like an Englishman, forgive me. Other drinks are available try a schnapps, many Germans drink it with their beer as a chaser but don't under estimate it. You will find the Germans will worry far more about you enjoying yourself, then what you are drinking. Have a wonderful break

Look for the fun flavors. When we were in Germany my wife ordered a Bananaweiss. It was surprisingly good.

I don't like beer myself and have the same problem, especially on Oktoberfest.

Usually you can always get away with drinking coke or "Apfelschorle" (apple juice mixed with water), even in a beer house.

But if your boy friend wants you to try beer, then go for Radler. This is half beer and half sprite and I actually like it :-)

a lot of the Europeans have flavoured beer, strawberry etc. taste a lot like milkshakes but have alcohol. heaven I know. so trust me there will be a beer you will like. enjoy
