when you have her birth certificate you know when and where she was born (city) Ask the office at that town if she was german when she was born and if they have further documentation about her.
contact the city via the official site like www.berlin.de and than go to Einwohnermeldeamt thats where evry german is registered. |

Where was your mom born. Try to obtain a birth certificate there - this office should be able to provide the needed information. |

Everybody is registered at the government office in Germany. If you are moving from one city to another you need to do this again and again. They change on your ID card your new address always.
So with your mother, where she was living last time, you need to contact this city and Einwohnermeldeamt or Stadtverwaltung, they can send you this document. |

All residents of Germany are by law required to register at their local "Meldebehoerde". This is usually the town's office. Many people never bother (especially people on the run from debtors or students on their parent's inurance policies), but it becomes important when wanting to vote, wanting to marry or get a divorce, when giving birth to a baby or when applying for a passport or a Personalausweis (personal ID card).
All Germans are by law required to have valid ID. This can be either a passport or an ID card.
Germans who live abroad are encouraged to register with their nearest German embassy or consulate. This is also the place where they apply for a new passport when after 10 years their old passport or ID card expires. German embassies cannot issue new ID cards, only new passports. ID cards are always issued in Germany at the legal place of residence. If you know the last legal place of residence in Germany of a person you can contact the "Meldebehoerde" in that town (also often known as "Einwohnermeldeamt" or "BĂĽrgerbĂĽro") and get proof that this place issued a passport or an ID card to that person. The German embassy can help you with this. |
