(Alwin E & other German people only)What is the difference between "Entschuldigung" and "Oh,das tut mir Leid"? |
If I ask a German "Wie geht es Ihnen? " and the German replied , " Leider nicht sehr gut. "
I wanna show my sympathy towards him. I mean I wanna say " I am sorry to hear that " in Germna. Should I say "Entschuldigung" or "Oh,das tut mir Leid." ? Which one is more suitable ?

Last Question 1 ) By the way, can Passau residents receive Austrian TV singals at their home ? Or which part of Germany can receive Austrian/Swiss TV signals?
Last Question 2) How long does it take to travel from Berlin to Cologne by train ?

You should say "Es tut mir leid" to express your sympathy, because "Entschuldigung" is more an excuse if you did something wrong or wanna ask someone (like "pardon")
Hm... about the TV signal... I'm sorry that I can't answer this quite right, cause I also don't live near Passau, but in Baden-Württemberg you can watch the Austrian and Swiss TV programm ;)
And about the travel... If you wanna use the ICE, it will take a bit more than four hours. With the IC (InterCity) and RE (RegionalExpress) it'll be two hours longer - hope, this helps you ^^ |

The first part ask this in languages this is wrong section to ask here!!
Austrian and Swiss TV can be watched in entire Germany if you have satellite. In some parts they can be watched through cable TV also.
On regular TV through DVBT only in the regions close to the borders.
For German rail questions I ll give you a link where you will find all info regarding traveling by Rail
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
Also please stop asking languages questions here most users here are no Germans and you only get a lot of wrong results . |

"Entschuldigung" = "Excuse me" or just "Sorry"
"Oh, das tut mir leid" = "Oh, I am so sorry"
Think of what you would say in english, and i guess you will know what you have to say ;) |

You definitely don't want to use "Entschuldigung" unless you
are responsible for his misery :)
"Entschuldigung" is an apology.
"Oh, das tut mir Leid" is an expression of sympathy. |

You would say "Oh, das tut mir leid" to say I'm sorry (to hear that). If you want to say "Excuse me" or "I'm sorry (I did that)" you would say "Entschuldigung".
As for the other questions, you can travel from Berlin to Cologne in about four and a half hours if you take the fastest connection (Intercity Express train).
I don't live anywhere close to Passau so I can't answer your TV question - tut mir leid. :) |

~~ little miss horsaholic ~~

O das tut mir Leid is exactly what you wanted to express, Entschuldigung is just like sorry. |
