Am thinking of travelling to Germany in August with 2 children ages 10 and 8 recommend and if so what to do?

August is generally the hottest month in Germany so pack adequate clothing! There are lots of things to do just like the other answerers suggested - castles are always a winner (children are usually amazed that there actually was something like knights, kings, castles etc.). Taking a rhine-river day cruise is almost a must, the best one would be to take a boat from binger brÃ¼ck down to how far youÂ´d like to go and come back by train because taking the boat back up takes quite a while and the kids tend to get bored and tired on the way back. So if youÂ´re in the greater Rhein-Main-Area plan for a day or two by the Rhein river and include at least 1 or 2 different castles! The Mosel river is just as beautiful and has many nice little towns along it with plenty of wine-tasting as an added bonus.

Most bigger cities have nice zoos, if you happen to be in the Berlin area you can see the Panda Bears that were given to the zoo from China. If your kids like seeing new things and donÂ´t have to have a Chucky Cheese around the corner theyÂ´ll love plain sightseeing and the special things every city has to offer (if they like chocolate e.g., every city has at least one place that has handmade chocolate that is to die for!)

If you happen to be close to southern Germany I have to agree that going to the Alps is an absolute must! If you want to add a little history as well you can go to Berchtesgaden and get a tour through Hitlers bunker there, go to the Eagles Nest or take a trip through the Salt mines (which is alot more fun!). Austria and Switzerland are just a hop and a skip away and you get to enjoy 3 countries in one day if you like!
No matter what youÂ´ll end up doing, I hope it will be a great experience for you and the kids!!!

I live in Germany and there is many things to see. There is old castles and ruins everywhere. We also heve amusement parks and other cool things to do for kids. I live in south Germany and the suggestion with Neuschwanstein castle is good, but maybe not that interesting for the kids. There is smaller castles with bird shows (falcons, eagles and stuff). Also when you are in south Germany, there is Austria, Switzerland or France right there. From the city of Mannheim it takes 45 min to be in France and 5 hours to be in Paris at the Eiffeltower....

I've lived in Germany for over a year and August is a beautiful time in Germany. I would suggest going to sotuh Germany to Neuschwannstein Castle (it kinda looks like the castle aat disney world but alot bigger). It is a beautiful place that nests on the verge of the alps. They also have some great spas for you.

You can take them to an automobile race. I lived in Germany during an exchange program and there was a race track not to far from where I lived. There are usually alot of racing events that go on there. Also certain towns have flea markets that come into town like one a week so you can take them shopping also.

august is a great time to visit germany, if not a little crowded. for younger kids, travelling along the rhein river and exploring the castles should be fun. also, in rudesheim(a town on the river), there are cable cars that take you over vineyards and up into the mountains where there are some good hiking trails.
