American family moving to germany?

I have been offered a non-military DoD position in Bamberg, but not sure about the cost of living; the company has offered me 94K USD annually with no LQA; my husband will be transferring from his US company to one in Germany as well; do you think my salary alone would be sufficient to live comfortably with my husband and 3yr old?

Yes.

Yep, I was in Germany last month and its fairly cheap
73,928 Euro would easily cover expenses for three people.

... and the Germans make a fantastic sandwich!

Good luck if you move!

I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I can tell you that Germany is amazing! I think that you will like it, because I was not looking forward to going, but once I lived there for a long time, it was awesome! I really miss it! Anyway, have a great time living there! =)

I live in Bamberg (grad school, not army) and think that that should be more than enough to live comfortably.

My grocery budget for myself for the entire month is typically under $60 USD and if you learn the language and get out into the community, most cafes and restaurants catering to Germans are really inexpensive. (There are some places with English signs out front that cater to the US community but their prices are typically 2-3 times higher than at the cafes that don't.) For example, one popular cafe has a Thursday special where a burger, salad, and fries will set you back 3,50€.

I live in an apartment (with three roommates) in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Zone and my share of the rent and utilities costs less than $300 USD a month.

Just a warning, though: the actual move may be more expensive than you planned, if you are planning to live off-base. The German definition of "unfurnished" means no sinks, no appliances, no nothing.

you gonna be sooo surprised, when you go to the grocery store. the money you save on food alone is going to finance a nice long weekend to travel and see some castles like Neuschwanstein.--
we are going home on the 29th of this month and my husband especially is looking forward to all that good food.
you know another advantage is, that Bamberg had a large military community and locals will gladly help you out with language problems.
I am certain you will adjust in no time and learn to know my country.
if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail.
