Any people from Nürnberg or any of those who know it well?

I'm 23 and planning to visit Nürnberg in August. Some of the things I want to know before I get there: what are the places I should visit during the day, what cafes, interesting places and similar, what is the night life like there for someone listening to electronic music, house, hiphop. And I want to know is there any chance of getting an interesting 7-day job since I plan to stay for that period of time. Also I would be grateful if you have some ideas of your own how to spend in a best way this 7 or 10 days in your city. DANKE SCHÖN

Hi,
I'm not from or in Nuernberg, but I've been there a few times, and know the country well. You haven't asked for tips on accommodation, but I thought I should give you this one regardless: The city's castle has an amazing hostel inside its walls, where you can stay quite comfortably. In terms of finding a seven-day job, your best bet will be to go to an institution called the "Arbeitsamt" (Office of Work, if translated directly) to find jobs. They may have stuff for seven days, too. But you will need to have a work visa if you haven't got an EU passport (fairly easy to obtain at consulates). If you play an instrument, bring it along and play it in the inner city. Most German cities have pieceful, clean shopping streets where cars are banned, and international travellers often play instruments there and collect money. If you're good, you can make pretty amazing money (a friend of mine, who is a student of music, did this one day when they needed money, in Heidelberg; she got together with a fellow student who sang, and she played the violin. In seven hours, they had earned 2000 Euros. But they were good). If you are planning to do the music thing, ask for an artist's visa at the German consulate. That would allow you to do this legally, but it would exclude you from other work (but hey, who wants that, with a minimum wage of Euro 5,50 or something). Other than that, spending time in a German city in summer is usually great, especially if you have the money to hang out in outdoor restaurants (Biergarten), and like to swim in rivers and lakes. That's what a lot of people do there. It's really mellow, and from what I hear, it's hot as hell there now, good swimming weather.
Have fun.

Nürnberg is pretty provincial. I wouldn't count on exciting nightlife, but you might get lucky music-wise, depending on what the current programme is for the local clubs. Just ask around when you're there (most of the time they decide what kind of music they'll play about a week ahead of time). I've put a link to the Nürnberg tourist office page in the sources.
I think you should definitely see the castle and the Germanic museum.
And the 7-day job? Not sure that's a good idea. It's difficult enough getting a job if you live there, even as an English speaker. Getting one for a week is next to impossible, I'd say. Like the poster above me said -- busking would be an option, but you'll have to look into the gazillionl laws governing that -- licenses, places you are and aren't allowed to play, where does private/commercial property begin, etc. etc.
