The 80's are back! Skinny jeans, leggings under shorts or mini skirts, bright colors and accessories. Here are some links to a few clothing items that are very similar to what Ive seen teenagers wearing.

Whoever said that you will be lucky to be noticed is right. Ive noticed that Germans hardly look at you when you pass them on the street let alone give a crap what you are wearing.

The German friends you'll meet will sure advise you on clothing, and especially when going swimming, there's a lot of cultural difference between the US and Germany (or Europe in general). Plan some 50 or 60 euro in for a new stylish bikini.

Germans will never mock about clothing, however, unless it's utterly displaced. As a young person, you can visit a classic concert in jeans and shirt; as an older person, this would not be appreciated, and an evening gown or suit would be expected.

If you don't want to be noticed as an american right away then stay away from sweat pants in public. That's something you can wear at home or at the gym. Or when taking out the trash ;)

i dont really get the comment about skinny jeans. most of the germans i know dress kinda rock/punk/emo -ish. (including skinny jeans). i dont think you would ever get laughed at for wearing something; the fashion there is very much the same as in the us. i'd just stay away from anything super american like cowboy boots or an american flag t-shirt. ha. which reminds me, germans dress nice for everything, so don't go out wearing sweatpants or t-shirts.

You'll be lucky even to be noticed. I live in Berlin and people don't even look at one another. If you are extremely fat, than some people might stare, but no one will care.

A German subway thinks we're fat. I loved that poster. So definitely not the skinny jeans. LOL

Being born in berlin, The style of the city is very fashionable, germans generally try to look good at all times. Jeans are fine, every german where jeans and own one in at least another color than blue:)

You probably won't be noticed in germany, There is a bit of everything in this wonderful country.

I wear a leather jacket every day. I see most young people wearing scarfs, a fedora, beanies, vests, funky socks, converse.
We like to look good.
It's a good thing to be fashionable in germany, we're cool like that:D

i'm sure you will laugh at what they wear, just saying cultures have a tendency to think what the other wears is strange. some geerman styles are like...what were they thinking?

AZ
You're American, and you're going to Germany, so some will laugh at you regardless because of your nationality. Just wear the clothes that you'd usually wear, and don't worry about it.

I spent 3 weeks with a German family and they did not want me wearing adidas pants or jacket because they said it made me look Russian I guess they don't like Russia people. haha Also everyone there dresses really fancy. When it comes to girls they pretty much dress the same as here.
