I have not been there for over three years, and honestly: I don't remember about the baby facilities, cause no one in my family needed them back than.

But: If your baby is happy, why should he have a pacifier? Let him have fun (I hope he will have fun, after a long flight!). All the other people there want to be able to relax the way they want, why should your baby not? So let them look and make comments, at least your baby is happy! If it were a three year old behaving badly, that's a completely different story, but a five months old? Let him be, and don't stress yourself. Keep everybody in the traveling party as relaxed as possible, and he will be as relaxed as possible. Don't let others wind you up or get you down. Pack his favorite little toy into your purse, make sure he has everything he needs drink or food-wise, make sure he stays warm enough, not yet too warm, and don't get all those anxieties up.
My niece (now a one-year old) is extremely sensitive to the stress level of the people she is with, and staying relaxed helps a lot with her. If we are relaxed and take things as they come, she is just her giggling happy little self and doesn't care where the heck she is. And we don't care if she is making a lot of noise laughing and giggling and babbling. Of course, she has a little "happy-button" (her belly-button), and it will work wonders in distracting her if we tickle her there for a couple of seconds. Don't know if that works the same way with your son. Also, for her it was important to stay in the picture. She always wanted to be held and picked up when there was a conversation going on and she was awake.
All in all: Just keep him occupied and if there are signs he is getting ready to let go of a howl, distract him with something new (receipt from a restaurant, a hair band, piece of paper that's crinkled up, one of your bracelets, everything else that can be cleaned up enough for him to have that is new and he hasn't had before, doesn't matter what it is.). That also worked wonders with every baby/small kid I ever had to watch. As long as it is new, it will totally distract them.

And: make sure you are keeping yourself and everyone in the traveling party well hydrated during the long flights and take care of yourself. Won't help if your baby is happy and you are falling over backwards for forgetting to drink!

Good Luck, have a safe trip and just don't bother about people who are giving you the looks and cleaning their throats. Not worth it.

It is from the airport itself.

A shouting baby should not really be recognized in this airport. It is huge as you can see here: http://www.airportcity-frankfurt.com/cms/default/rubrik/13/13176.overview.htm

And there are many places you can spend your time at. Walk around with your baby, it might enjoy the new looks and smells and be busy watching all those people.

There are family bathrooms at Frankfurt. The Airport is huge and can be confusing, but you should be ok.

well. i was 11 yrs old (now im thirteen). last time i went. but they had the baby changing things in the womens room.
it is really clean. and big. prepare to tip the janitors. i suggest about a euro.
but it is a huge airport. its really neat though.
you can look at the airport website for more details

The big problem with Frankfurt is the sheer size of it. You will have to walk miles to get wherever you're going.

maybe you should stay home until he is old enough to not bother other people

Frankfurt airport is awful. I'm afraid there's not much by way of facilities - unless you are any airline gold card holder and can go to a lounge. It crowded and pretty poor an airport. Afraid you have to grin and bear it.

Johnny the Zionist
yes I am there regularly and they have baby facilities
