My cat Jake owns me

Are Birkenstocks a house shoe, or can they be worn outside?

I just moved to Germany and got my first pair of Birkenstocks. Are they a house slipper, or can I wear them outside? My husband says outside, but our friends say inside only.

HI,

I have a pair for inside and another one for outside. I love to wear them for sightseeing because they are so comfortable.

I've been crossing rivers with them, dried them in the sun again, walked up mountains -- everything. They're the best shoes I've ever had.

t_maia2000
I have a pair and use them as slippers at home, but I could wear them outside just as well. They are just like sandals exept for the heel strap and are intended by the manufacturer as streetwear.

The inside/outside thing is a question of fashion, style and taste. Those who say "inside only" think these shoes should never been allowed into fashion in the first place. They are kind of casual or working place shoes, popular with nurses, doctors, computer programmers and hippies.

kschroehh
Here in Germany you can also wear them outside .

Have a nice day
K.

I don't know about Germany, but in the US , I see people wearing them outside all the time.

RayeKaye
I don't know about what they do in Germany, but here in the U.S. people where them outdoors all the time!

Alarka Chade
You can wear them in- and outside.
I don't know many ppl who actually wear them outside. Probably to work in the garden...

Have fun living in Germany....

With Birkenstocks the same rules apply as for any other pair of shoes: however you like them honey! :-)

Wouldn't wear them at the office though.

fliege52000
You can wear them in or outside. If you get dressed nicely, please don't put them on for outside, this don't look good.

Well, I think it is OK to wear them outside if the weather allows you to... I would not wear a pair during the Bavarian winter, it tends to turn your toes "black"... LOL

m....n...
Wear them anywhere!
But-- in my experience the Birkenstock soles wear down faster when being worn outside, compared to soles of other sandals I had. And-- if you wear them inside in Winter and want to just step out quick with them on( maybe to go to the garbage can or so) and there is snow, they are the most slippery shoes on snow..!
