Are german ppl easygoing?

well, I have met some german ppl in my life....to me they have many in common. Very serious, seldom smiles, very straightfoward, and sometimes arrogant. Just wonder in your experience dealing with ppl from Germany, are they really difficult to befriend with??

you might find some rude ones , yes that is true
but not all of us are rude
it is the same thing in every nation
some are nice and some are a$$es
but it could also be your behaviour?
ever thought about that?
do you speak German ?
alot of people come to germany and expect everyone to speak english instead of having the courtesy to learn at least a little of our language.
that could piss some people of
@miss usa
you should have kicked that ***** idiot for being so rude to you

@superson
#1 Hitler is dead since ages (In case you don't know)
#2 Hitler was "only" a naturalized German , he was born and raised in Austria and became a German when he was already 43 years old(25. Februar 1932).
So if you use such statements make sure you know the backround because if not you might sound a little uneducated .........

HITLER wasn't german...just to make this clear once for all (also: he was part jewish) and if anybody has seen the movie 'the wave' you should know by now that a sick mind doesn't depend on nationality! look what's happening in our world today...we still have got many little 'hitlers' acting like fools out there.

well. i met pretty straightforward people all around the world, i met rude people all around the world, i met arrogant people all around the world (including germans).

i met british travellers that couldn't believe i was german, due to my sense of humour - they were stuck with their superficial ideas about germans and happily surprised when i laughed even harder about their jokes...lol.

on the other hand i do not like germans (or just anyone) that are superficial about british, american, australian people for example ...

heaps of germans, me included, do love the british sense of humour.

while working in G.B. people told me they love travelling germany...as they found something different to their own culture that was appealing enough.

and so on and so on and so on

true is, we have a reputation of being a bit too serious at times - we think a lot, and i guess we love it ;) but once you made REAL friends, you usually have got friends for life!

also take into account that germany is a very multicultural country! so where can you begin to generalise, where do you have to stop??

different nations come from a different cultural background due to history etc! and that's brilliant! we can all explore and learn from each other - you just need to have the guts to go out there and find out yourself!

"there is a world beyound the borders..." (and it is not bad at all - we lllllloooooovve beer, too!!).

good luck!!! :)

Met the coolest guy when travelling (a few years back now) who was German. Maybe humourless from onlookers, but when you knew him, very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and having great dry wit. Would like to think many others from the motherland share this persona, so wouldn't generalise.

No, not at all. If you are going to be ssteroetypical about it, I guess you could say they seem rather serious, but thats just generalizing isn't it. German people are very polite, friendly, sociable human beings. Also they speak great English lol, which is sometimes annoying if you want to practise your german!
Hope you make some cool german freinds! lol.

Sure you can find some arrogant Germans, but that's true for every race. And they're not all Hitlers thank you. They're very nice and funny if you get to know them usually. They'll get serious though if it's a cause they care about, like the environment.

my ex motherinlaw was full german she could be hard but she could be nice to she was a wondered grandma to my son. my son has an aunt in Germany and cousins they are really nice.
his German aunt won the pulitzer prize. my sons grandma had a sence of humor. but you did not want to get her mad. lol (RIP EDITH )

Leon
I have found them to be friendly and they have a good sense of humour. Maybe if you can't make the Germans smile, it's you who are not very funny. They worry too much sometimes though.

I agree with the poster above. I live and work in Germany. With the exception of the Germans whom I have met who have travelled or lived abroad they are really horrible people. They have a level of rudeness which I am yet to have experienced from any other nationality. This is something I have experienced from all classes of German person, from the oiks on the street to highly educated professionals with whom I work. I feel they totally lack empathy as a people and enjoy the suffering of others. I came here on my own to work and I really feel my colleagues have enjoyed ignoring me and refusing to invite me out. I have been forced to find friends in the ex pat community - thank God for the lovely American, French, Spanish and Italian people I have met here! The standard of customer service in Germany is absolutely abysmal. In Britain people in shops are generally polite. Here, they throw the change onto a plate in front of you and if you smile at the sales girl she will treat you like a slimy creep. This is all part of their culture of being horrible. They are also very racist and hate foreigners. They dislike the British (especially the English) who they blame for bombing and ruining their cities and towns in the war without actually accepting the fact that it was a war which they themselves started. I went to Dachau museum and the German school kids were walking around laughing whilst everyone else looked shocked. I found this typical German arrogance. The former east, especially, is crawling with threatening looking neo-nazis. I am in Germany to work and when my contract is up I won't be back to this awful country ever again.

No,they're kind of complicated, easygoing is really sth not very common in Germany....

I've lived in Israel,South africa and have met many US-americans....visited for 2 years every sunday an american church in bonn, germany(inside the USarmy compound).

people there have been really easygoing and cool, especially the Israelis.....

And yes, many of us are arrogant,if only towards foreigners or people of other nations....

And although often not as outgoing as Americans and less smiling,Germans at least used to be very honest.

And it depends on the individual, how easy it is to get befriended...

But all people i know having contact with Germans liked them.

I lived in Germany for 9 years and worked and interacted with thousands of people from all walks of life. In general, your observations are true. They were arrogant, self-centered, overly serious and unfriendly. Cultural differences aside, I did not find too many "nice" people.
I met a few who were different from the norm, but they were extreme exceptions and the one thing they all had in common was their desire to say "we aren't typical Germans and wow, aren't Germans so unfriendly". In other words, they had a greater sense of awareness and willingness to acknowledge this.
Some people may take offense to my comments, but this was my experience. I actually liked living in Germany for many reasons, but it was the people that would get me down and eventually motivated me to leave.

P.S> I find it disgusting reading the comments here about distancing Hitler from Germany and saying that he is ancient history. This is ridiculous and insulting to not only me but the people who were alive and witnessed WWII and the Holocaust. My grandparents fought in WWII and are still alive. My grandfather saw concentration camps as a liberating allied officer. The ugliness of this regime that existed IN GERMANY and was run by and large by GERMANS was certainly one of the greatest examples of depravity known to man. It ain't all over guys. Even when the last remaining witness is dead, it still won't be over.
