Berlin areas, where are the best to stay?

Berlin is a large city broke down into communial areas, like the ones you listed. Public transportation is great and abundant. For Euro 6 you can ride any and all public transportation until 3 am the next morning. Called the A,B,C ticket. Even down into and around Potsdamn.

They are a HUGE hotel chain with accomodations for any budget. The only chain of theirs I would stay away from are the F1 hotels (common rooms and baths) but the rest are always friendly and CLEAN for a great price.

I was in Berlin in January and heading back up for Easter.

Mitte is a good area - that's where the train station is.

Either way, you have to take the U-bahn (like subway) to go cover all the touristy sites as Berlin is big.

The central areas/districts in Berlin are: Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain (former east) and Kreuzberg, SchÃ¶neberg, Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf (former west Berlin).
Any of them are fine, because public transport is simply great.

The best area for tourists is without a doubt Berlin Mitte, the most centrally located station there is Berlin Friedrichstrasse (all city train - S-Bahn - go there and additionally one U-Bahn - Metro - line), a hotel just 100 meters from it is the Sol Melia. Most Museums and sights are in walking distance from there!

If you want to be near the airport and near almost everything Friedenau is probably your best bet. I live in Friedenau and it takes 15 minutes to get to tegel by car. Its practically the center of the city because nothing is farther than 20 mnutes on the U bahn. I wouldnt worry too much about what district you stay in but I would not recommend Neu KÃ¶lln or Kreuzberg. They are both know for being somewhat crappy. For an American I can say honestly that the best places for us are Zehlendorf, Steglitz and Friedenau/ SchÃ¶neberg just because it isnt so shocking to be in these places and they are all just as easy to get to as to as the other places. And the people are more understanding .. like some places they are not... they look at you weird and refuse to speak english... so yeah....

It is nearly impossible to answer this question.

It depends to much on yourself and on the money you have to spend.

They are the tourist areas and of course the party zone and the more exclusive areas.

I loved the Hotel Seehof at the Lietzensee, it is located on a park with a lake, but close to public transportation which bring you any where you want in short time.

Their website is only in German, but they speak English as well.
