Can I bring fresh produce from the US into Germany? |
In January, I am visiting a friend of mine in Berlin, Germany. I plan to bring him some gifts from the US that he cannot longer buy in Germany. One of the things that he misses the most is food made with fresh cilantro. Due to customs, are there restrictions on bringing fresh produce out of the United States into another country? I think that there are, but I wanted to check first. Would I be able to bring fresh cilantro to Germany?

I don't know where your friend does his shopping. But fresh cilantro - in German it is called Korriander - is available in every German grocery shop. |

Probably not! However when I went to Berlin in October, there wasn't a single customs agent so we could have brought nearly anything in to the country. (Well if we got it through the US airport security anyway haha) |

No, fresh food is not allowed without an importer's license. Same all over the world. |

you most definitely cannot, not even a tube of toothpaste is not allowed. if you buy a drink at the airport in the states, you even have to drink it on the plane, because you aren't allowed to enter germany or leave the german airport with it. its ridiculous |
