Can I live off post in Baumholder, Germany? ?

We are PCSing to Baumholder and I have had friends say that they do not allow people to live off post/off the economy. Is this true? Do we have to live on post in Army housing? If we don't, does anyone have suggestions as to where we should look to rent off post? We have a large dog (70lbs) that we will be bringing with us. Thanks so much!!

The army spouse above is right. You can live off base. But your choices might be limited because of your large pet. Only few landlords allow pets. If you already know that you are PCSing to Germany, I think you can start looking (check with your housing office -- or better yet, get the contact info for the Baumholder housing office. They might be able to give you the link to the house/apartment listing.
(I'm in AF, and was stationed in Ramstein for 4 years and I think army does things a little different but not too different... Lol...)
Been to Baumholder few times for my kids' tournaments -- bowling, baseball, softball, basketball, etc...

No you can't. Since there is a high terror threat to members of the US Army

there is a high terror risk of muslim terrorists. they do not like the american forces at all

yea you can live off base, its up to you.... the housing office on base will have a list of approved houses - they control it so that you cant get ripped off - also the bah works differently - you get the amount of your rent - ( you have to submit paperwork to housing) then you get 500 euros for bills... its can be alright to live off base, but not always.....

what kind of dog is it? because not all of the breeds are allowed in germany!.. just to let you know.... .

if you have nay questions about moving to germany feel free to message me on myspace www.myspace.com/woodstock0485

No this is not true. If you married and have children you can live off post. They pay you some extra money for the rent and for the utilities, and the calculation made with your rank. Single soldiers I think up the rank E5 can stay off post.
They also have gov. leasing's, I don't know they have this in Baumholder, there is everything free, except the phone bill.
On post also everything free, except the phone bill.
Contact the housing in Baumholder. You can do that on the internet.
Good Luck and welcome to Germany.
Army spouse, Germany.
P.S. Also you get Cola money in Germany too.
