Check out the Combo Ich+Ich. I really like their song "Du erinnerst mich an Liebe" (You remind me of love - great love song) and their new smash hit "Du bist vom selben Stern".

And if you like Wir sind Helden, you might also enjoy Rosenstolz, especially their Album "Herz".

Another love song I like is "Sie ist weg" (She Is gone) by Die Fantastischen Vier. It is an older hip-hop piece, but I am very fond of it.

I can also recommend "PhÃ¤nomenal egal" (roughly "I really don't care") by Farin Urlaub. It is a funny-sad song about love and denial, about a man who doesn't want to admit that he is in love. (The last line goes "At the very least I am almost not in love with you...")

And a sad love song written by Farin Urlaub for his band Die Aerzte is "Nichts in der Welt"(Nothing in the world). It is about a love that is over and "nothing in the world will ever make it better".

The same girl that sang 99 Luftballons, Nena has this relatively new song called Liebe Ist (Love is) and the whole song can be summed up in its really catchy chorus: liebe ist so wie du bist - love is as you are. It's one of those songs that makes you think of the earlier, nicer parts of relationships before the arguments over who said meet at what time. The last few moments, where she's earnestly singing is the coolest part of the song. You can buy it here.

An older song by her that has the most ridiculous name ever is Lass mich dein Pirat sein (Let me be your Pirate). Unfortunately, the only version I could find on the web is this version attached to a homemade vid but listen to it anyway here (you might wanna just close your eyes and listen to the song). The English version of the song was included on the US 99 Luftballons album but the German version was left out. I think the German version is better - although weirder as she sings about being a pirate and a pilot for the man she loves.

It's slower than some of her more popular music and more romantic than the title would lead you to believe. My favorite line is: wir segeln bis zum Horizont begleiten wird uns nur der Mond (we're sailing to the horizon with only the moon to accompany us). Pardon me, I'm a dork. You can buy it here.

Finally, a new band I like a lot is Juli, which prides itself on being a rock band. The song I like in particular is Warum (Why). It's grittier and harder than the other two although still a love song. It kinda makes you think of the tail end of a relationship because the song is asking: Why does everything has to be a fight and Is this argument really that important? You can buy it here.

My favorite line is: Du stellst mir tausend Fragen, stellst dich mitten in den Wind, und ich hoff' du checkst, dass sie nicht wichtig sind. (You ask me a thousand questions, you're in the middle of the wind and I hope you realize that none of them are important).
